 Greetings!

Since opening our doors in May, we are so pleased to have shared the company of many of our "annual islanders," while happily greeting new guests whom we hope to see in future seasons. Our Rose has concocted hundreds of muffins, perked gallons of Bay View coffee, and baked dozens upon dozens of cookies this summer.

The Summer Wind is knocking on the door of Fall, but there are still a few weeks to enjoy all that Mackinac Island has to offer - history, biking, shopping, sailing, and relaxing on the veranda at Bay View. Take a break and spend a long weekend regrouping... or remembering.

The welcome mat is always out at Bay View.

Not Your Aunt Bea's B&B....anymore the concept has changed but the perception hasn't

Bay View EntranceSome things get better with age. Many of the original bed and breakfast inns or "boarding houses" offered a guest a simple room and the use of a bathroom shared by the family or other guests. Introduced in Europe, these modest havens have evolved into a unique lodging opportunity for the person seeking to immerse themselves in the culture and character of a bygone era.

Tastes and expectations have changed. Today's sophisticated travelers have set the bar higher for the bed and breakfast industry. They want the modern features and comforts coupled with privacy and ambience.

Bay View Bed and Breakfast and Brigadoon have responded in spades. Think of each as a swanky hotel cocooned in the charm and coziness of a Victorian home.

Bay View Rooms with Private Baths and JacuzzisAt a swanky hotel, you would expect your private room to have it's own private bath. At Bay View Bed and Breakfast, your beautifully appointed guest room has it's own true-to- period bath. No sharing with strangers.

Bay View BreakfastAt a swanky hotel, you would have a menu of standard breakfast fare retrieved from an industrial storage freezer, tossed in a microwave, and served piping tepid. At Bay View and Brigadoon, your full-breakfast selections are anything but standard: Caramel Apple French toast (yum), freshly-made spinach quiche, and, of course, steaming Bay View signature blend coffee. There are homemade chocolate chip cookies on the veranda in the afternoons and bed time sweets - all complimentary.

At a swanky hotel, you would have modern amenities like a television and WiFi. While most people choose to escape when they visit Mackinac Island, you can still stay connected with your world at Bay View and Brigadoon if you so chose.

B & B - the best of both worlds.
Getting to Know Jeff & Christi Dupre
Mackinac Island's entrepreneur photographers extraordinaire
A Florida resident, Jeff worked as a photographer during the Mackinac summers from 1977 to 1983, and saw the possibilities of promoting Mackinac Island as a wedding destination.

Christi Dupre
Christi Dupre
Christi worked in advertising sales for a national publishing firm before she and Jeff moved to the Island. (Bet you're connecting the dots already.) Photography... publishing... advertising. It added up to a great marketing opportunity for business owners with a nuptial niche. Jeff and Christi began their businesses, Island Photo and Island Publications in 1992, when there were only a handful of weddings on the island.

Jeff and Christi combined their talents and published the first Mackinac Island Wedding Guide in 1993. The magazine grew exponentially as the tally of Island summer weddings increased. Now in its 18th year, The Guide is available free of charge for anyone noodling the idea of tying the knot on Mackinac Island.

As Jeff collected a portfolio of beautiful island photos, another idea was born - Mackinac Living magazine. This colorful publication features the cottages, hotels, and the people and places of the Island. There are nine issues published annually.

In 2010, Jeff and Christi created yet another new magazine featuring the many activities, fine restaurants, and unique shops on the island. Inside Mackinac is filled with beautiful photographs and equally descriptive verbiage. It is the Island's only free guidebook showing the many things to do on Mackinac Island.

The Dupres believe there is an abundance of opportunity on Mackinac and feel very blessed to be in the right place at the right time to design a business and lifestyle that allows them to live and work on the Island. "We love helping local businesses prosper. We also want Island visitors to have a wonderful vacation experience. It brings us great joy to be able to share what we do with others."

Jeff and Christi have 2 daughters. Kate, 19, who is a graphic design major in college and a staff photographer for Island Photo. Their youngest daughter, Diana, is 15 and in the 10th grade. When the Dupres are not capturing memories of Mackinac, they enjoy their "dual citizenship" in Islamorada, FL.

Photographs taken by Jeff, Christi or Kate are featured at www.Islandphoto.info and they welcome any inquiries for family portraits, or wedding photography on Mackinac Island.

Very Berry Pie (a traditional family favorite)
A refreshing blueberry & raspberry delight... the InnKeepers Choice

Serves: 6-8  Prep time: 15-20 minutes   Served:  chilled

(For this Very Berry recipe, our two daughters and I pick raspberries in the woods next to our house on Mackinac, so we know they are fresh. By the time we get home, the girls and I have eaten half the berries, so we have to make sure we pick twice as much as we need for this recipe.

Not only is this a wonderful fresh baked treat to enjoy, picking berries and getting the girls to help prepare the pie is a great opportunity for our family to spend quality time together.)

1 cup fresh raspberries
3- 4 ounces softened cream cheese
4 cups fresh or frozen blueberries (thaw to room temp)
1- 9 inch pie shell baked & cooled
1 Tablespoon lemon juice
Whipped cream or topping
6 Tablespoons water
2 Tablespoons cornstarch
½ cup granulated sugar
(optional: 1 cup fresh blackberries)

Very Berry PieUsing a medium saucepan, combine 2 cups of blueberries with ½ cup sugar, 2 Tablespoons cornstarch and 6 Tablespoons water.
Slowly bring mixture to a gentle boil and cook until thickened, constantly stirring...2-3 minutes.
Remove from heat, and stir in 1 Tablespoon lemon juice and set aside to cool.

Carefully spread softened cream cheese over the bottom of a cooled pie crust shell.
Fold 1½ cups of uncooked blueberries into cooled berry mixture.  Pour into prepared crust.
Sprinkle with 1 cup of raspberries over the top and add the remaining ½ cup of blueberries.
Chill 2-3 hours and serve with a generous portion of whipped cream topping.
