Safeguarding God's Children Classes coming up
Safeguarding logoFr. Ben and Rev. Robin Taylor from Christ Memorial will be conducting a Safeguarding God's Children Training Class on Saturday, March 3, at 9:00 a.m. at All Saint's Church.

Safeguarding God's Children is required of all clergy, Vestry and Bishop's Committee members, and anyone (paid or volunteer) who works with children. This includes Sunday school teachers, youth group leaders, and preschool and school teachers. Anyone in church is encouraged to attend the workshop, to increase the awareness of how to watch for warning signs of child abuse.

The Diocese uses the curriculum put together by the Church Pension Fund that describes the program as follows:  "Safeguarding God's Children provides participants with the information they need to protect the children they know and care for in their personal lives and the ministries in which they serve. The program is based on the philosophy that if every adult can protect just one child, they will forever change one life. If we can all change one life, together we will make a difference in this generation of children."

For those that have already received training, annual "refresher" courses are now required that can be done on-line.  Details on how to access the site will be forthcoming.  Registration information and details will be posted shortly.  If you have questions about the class itself, please see Fr. Ben.

Seventh Sunday after Epiphany
O Lord, who has taught us that all our doings without charity are nothing worth: Send thy Holy Ghost and pour into our hearts that most excellent gift of charity, the very bond of peace and of all virtues, without which whosoever liveth is counted dead before thee.  Grant this for thine only Son Jesus Christ's sake, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the same Holy Ghost, one God now and forever. Amen.  Book of Common Prayer, pg 164, 165

Discernment Day 2012
The Commission on Ministry will sponsor a Discernment Day for the Diocese on Saturday, March 10, 2012.  It will be held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church (behind the Cathedral) from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Discernment Day is a workshop designed for church groups ("congregational discernment committees") who help an individual or one another with answering questions of who God has made them to be and how God calls them to serve. Meeting with a discernment committee is the first step in the ordination process, but discernment committees can be helpful for many people - not just those called to ordination.  For more information and/or to register, click HERE.
