STAFF PICKS
 NICK'S PICK:
  Bedell Merlot 2006
(Long Island)
If you like the earthier style of Bordeaux reds, but you don't feel like paying top dollar for it, check out the Bedell Merlot from the North Fork  of Long Island.  Bedell employed a top winemaker from Chateau Mouton Rothschild to help make this wine, and it shows.  One whiff and you just might think you're in France, but at a fraction of the cost.
$19.99

KARIA'S PICK:
    DeTierra Pinor Noir 2006
(Monterey, California)
This wine shows elderflower and currant notes on the nose.  The palate is a bit more rustic, showing a pleasant earthiness.  Very enjoyable, this wine is not a fruit bomb but is much better for it.
$24.99

ROSS'S PICK:
      J. Hofstatter Legrein 2006 (Alto Adige, Italy)
Medium-bodied wine with full-body flavour.  Red and black cherry, violets, hints of earth and tobacco.
$25.99

Welcome to the last dog days of summer.

dog days of summerIf this dog drank wine, he would drink rosé.  And you should too, because this time next week, there will be far fewer rosés available.  The dog days of summer will be behind us, and so will rosé season.

But don't be too blue...if you're stuck in town this weekend, stop by the shop on Friday and Saturday between 5 and 7.30pm - we'll be pouring something (there's a 100% change it will include something pink.)

Fancy Pants Wines: Some Autumn Suggestions
In case you're feeling a little depressed that summer is almost over, we wouldn't like to remind you that fall isn't so bad.  Wine-wise, it's actually our favorite time of the year.  Those wines that just seemed a little too much for hot summer day are now absolutely perfect.  To get you in the mood, we're highlighting a trio of Bugundies.  Try one of these and you'll be ready to bring your wooly sweaters out of storage!

Burgundy Quick Study Notes:
  • Grape = Pinot Noir
  • Burgundian Pinor Noir DOES NOT = California Pinot Noir.  If words like 'elegant', 'perfumed', 'subtle' aren't what you're in the mood for, these wines will disappoint.  If these words do strike a chord, these wines will make you very happy.
  • Burgundy can be scary, complicated, expensive, and disappointing.  But if you ferret out the less 'glamorous' regions, you can find very nice stuff that won't break your heart.

All 3 of the wines below are Premier Cru sites (which means very good, but not as good as a Grand Cru site) from 'best-kept-secret' villages.  The words in ' ' are vineyard names.  The word right before that is the village name.  Drink now, or hold (either is OK with us!)
