Green Point Pinot Noir Rosé 2007
(Victoria, Australia)

Pinot Noir Rosé?
Yep, and it is yummy.
This one is free of any extreme Pinot funk but is still a little earthy and well structured.  Light and crisp, this wine is definitely great for the end of the summer.

This Week At Frankly Wines
Uh oh...it's getting dark sooner, we're subject to the occassional cool snap and the back-to-school signs are eveywhere.  That means one thing....time to get in those last few bottles of rosé!

So this week's newsletter is all about helping you on that mission.
  • Our weekly 3-Pack: rosés.
  • This Friday's tasting (5pm - 7.30pm): rosé
  • This week's Staff Pick: rosé

On a non-rosé note, we have recieved our allocation of Chateau Valandraud 2005.  For those in the mood to spend big on Bordeaux's leading garagiste wine, info is below.

And don't forget our special Chateau Musar Cellar-in-a-Box offer.  Check it out in our fancy new email archive right here.
This Week's 3-Pack: Everything's Coming Up Rosés
Yes, it's a sad cliché of a pun, but why waste time making up new puns when you can drink rosé instead?

If you haven't noticed, dry ros
és have finally hit the mainstream.  As one of my customers put it, this was the first summer he felt he could drink a pink wine with his head held high.

Since the summer is only a few weeks from over, we wanted to offer up a quick-study pack for those still on the fence about this delicious trend.

Pannonhalmi Apatsagi Rozé 2007 (Pannonhalmi, Hungary): No idea what grapes are in this blend.  Don't really even know how to pronounce the name.  Doesn't matter - the wine is GOOD!  Light, crisp, refreshing,  subtle fruit - it's a 'don't think, just drink' kind of wine. Regular price: $13.99

Domaine de Blanes Le Clot 2007 (VdP des Cotes Catalanes, France): 50% grenache, 50% syrah from the south of France.  A silky-smooth blend of fruit and spice, this one is a little more full-bodied and fruit-driven.  Bonus points: made by a cool female winemaker who uses biodynamic principles.  Regular price: $14.99

Solms Lekkerwijn Rosé 2006 (Western Cape, South Africa): The most 'serious' rosé in the line up, this is a blend of Viognier, Mouvedre and Grenache.  About 10 months of barrel aging gives the wine extra complexity, depth, and structure.  Almost a red wine, except it's pink.  Regular price: $19.99

Special 3-Pack Pricing: $41.99 (regular price: $48.97)
Chateau Valandraud 2005 is Here!
Chateau Valandraud's owner, Jean-Luc Thunevin, is one of the pioneers of Bordeaux's garagiste movement.  Although these 'garage' wines come from properties without rank, history or pedigree, low yields and spare-no-expense winemaking has led to higher ratings (and prices) than some better known names.  Zut alors.

Chateau Valandraud labelChateau Valandraud is generally considered the most important of these wines, with points (and prices) to match.  Robert Parker adores this wine, but so does the Wine Spectator, Steve Tanzer, and Brit-crit Jancis Robinson.  If they all agree, you know the wine must be something special.

In 2005, only 16,200 cases of Chateau Valandraud were produced - about 1,300 cases (i.e. not much).  And 2005 is considered the current vintage of the century, so not surprisingly, prices are high high high.  We're offering it at $565/bottle + tax.  6 bottles are here at the store - first come first served, no minimum purchase requirements.

(You may see this wine for less, but it's probably off the grey market.  These bottles were bought properly by my distributor, directly from the winery.  No counterfeit issues here.)
