This Week At Frankly Wines
In this newsletter, we're very excited to announce a very special offer on Chateau Musar.  It doesn't fall under the 'cheap and cheerful' catagory, but for those interested in exploring a facsinating rare and aged wine, this is a rare deal.

We're also offering a twist on our usual 3-pack - this time, it's a 2-pack!

And finally, we're actually announcing a wine tasting in advance!  Friday, August 8, 5.00pm - 7.30pm we're pairing some Spanish selections with a paella.  Stop by before heading out of town for the weekend.
Special Offer: Chateau Musar
Cellar-in-a-Box

Chateau Musar.
It's one of those wines that truly inspires a cult following.  People spot a bottle innocently sitting on the shelf and get all excited.  They can't help but pick it up and smile at it.

The story is the stuff of legends: Winery and vineyards located in Bekaa Valley, Lebanon.  Founded in the 1930's with wine produced with nearly every harvest despite battles waged among the vines.  Cellars that served as bomb shelters in the 80's.  Certain vintages that taste of gunpowder.

As for the what's in the bottle...Reds are a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault, Carignan and a few other grapes.  The mix changes every year depending on the whims of winemaker Serge Hochar.  Some years it's compared to Bordeaux, in some, to Burgundy, in others, to Chateauneuf du Pape.  The whites, somewhat similar to traditional white Rioja, are made from Obeideh and Merwah, two grapes rumored to be the ancestors of Chardonnay and Semillon.  Haters claim Musar is inherently a faulty wine marked by bottle variation and volatile acidity.  Lovers hope the haters keep hating because it keeps the prices down (relatively speaking.)

One thing that's for sure - Chateau Musar is absolutely unique in the world.  It lasts practically forever, and constantly evolves into a mix of exotic spices, stunningly vibrant fruit (even in the older wines), earthy, gamey, meatiness - and perhaps even a hint of gunpowder.

Musar is a classic example of wine that you want to keep tasting as it evolves.  A bottle this year, a bottle next year, and so on as you grow older together.  With this in mind, I've put together a special mini-Musar cellar-in-a-box offer.

While not inexpensive, these mini-Musar cellars provide a rare chance to experience one of the world's most unique wines in depth and over time - for the cost of less than one bottle of top Bordeaux.

Full Case Mini-Cellar - $725
  • 3 bottles 1997 (elegant, well-balanced)
  • 3 bottles 1995 (powerful, concentrated, built for  very long haul)
  • 3 bottles 1994 (riper, fuller due to hot year)
  • 1 bottle 1991 (one of the greatest vintages of the last 20 years)
  • 1 bottle 1988 (the other greatest vintage of the last 20 years)
  • 1 bottle 1995 Blanc (top year - and every Musar fan must try a bottle of the white.  It should be a rule)

    Half-Case Mini-Cellar - $455
  • 1 bottle each: 1997, 1995, 1994, 1991, 1988, 1995 Blanc

Bottles will also be available individually, but the mini-cellars are priced at a 15% discount (full-case) and 10% discount (half-case) vs.purchasing bottles individually.

The wines will come straight from the US importer, not the grey market.  Expected arrival is in mid- to late-September.  Credit card info is required to hold your order, but you will not be charged until the wine arrives in store.

If you are interested in reserving a case, please contact Christy by email or at 212.346.9544.

Please also forward this offer to any wine-geek friends you have.  Musar freaks lurk where you least expect them.
