This is first article of four on dieting, especially about dieting self-discipline and carb addiction from the viewpoints of each of the four temperaments (Colors).
If you poll folks about dieting failures, they'll often blame their lack of self-discipline and a hopeless addiction to bad carbs. So let's deal with those issues from A RATIONAL GREEN POINT OF VIEW!
First, forget about Green people who are not successful. Let's learn from Green winners how they lose those pounds and get fit.
Successful Greens -- the Rational temperament -- will treat themselves as an elegant science experiment, a scientific project with a mission statement, a meaningful rationale, clear goals, and a self-devised system to insure success.
Successful Greens famously do research first -- not just any old research through Google, but investigations of genuine experts with a following in a scientific community. And the odds are the Green will not subscribe 100% to any one expert's recommendations, but will piece together a custom-tailored plan for odds-on personal success.
So how might that look for self-discipline? Experienced dieters all know self-discipline guidelines can be broken somewhere between 3 days and 3 weeks. To overcome that, one Green friend of mine pre-planned a 21-day schedule so tight but so interesting that there would be little chance of deviating to wrong foods and less physical exercise. Another Green had his dad drive him to a farm 80 miles from convenience stores, gourmet restaurants and restaurant-loving friends. For 21 days, he was alone at the farm with a fridge stuffed with veggies and chicken.
Greens like long-term systems. Even better, they often prefer to create the systems to be followed. The routes to self-discipline above reflect such system creation.
As for carb reduction, you can be sure a rational Green would look to find better carbs: nutritious, delicious, fat-eating (along with great proteins). They would start with research and experts, then go to a custom system that places the right carbs in the right meals that stay delicious and fat-eating for those three weeks we talked about.
The expression "mind over matter" is a Green mantra. Green folks pride themselves in self-control - control over emotions and their own destinies if at all possible. So why wouldn't they depend on their minds to control their appetites?
Oh yes, there are difficulties for Green folks. They may not ask others for help because of pride in self-control, knowledge and competence. Also, a chemical addiction - and food is a mixture of addictive chemicals -- cannot always be solved with cognitive strengths alone. Not a few Green giants take advantage of support groups and rehab options. To make a Green plea to my wonderful Green friends: "Think about it."
