Happy HolidaYs!

Thank you for giving the gift of service!
Every day of the year, you inspire young people to be community change-makers. Thanks to your passion, partnership, and support, in 2011, YSA gave more than $1 million in grants, and with our partners, engaged youth in 102 countries on six continents.
We look ahead to 2012 with hope and gratitude, knowing that many of you are already preparing projects for Global Youth Service Day. This holiday season, YSA thanks you for giving the best gift of all: your service.
With warmest thanks, YSA Staff, Youth Council, and Board of Directors

9. In addition to YSA's 25th anniversary, the Peace Corps celebrated its 50th anniversary and IBM celebrated their 100th anniversary with a year of service.
10. Young people react to major current events - the shooting in Tucson, the death of Osama bin Laden - and participate in others - the Arab Spring, Occupy Wall Street. TIME Magazine names "The Protester" Person of the Year. Building public awareness and advocacy - through protesting, and many other means - is an important form of service.

Albion Future Farmers of America
Albion, NY
YSA recognizes the student members of Albion Future Farmers of America from Albion, New York, for their work to ensure that community members in need have access to food. On December 10, Albion FFA students delivered 9,000 pounds of produce to Community Action of Orleans & Genesee, a nonprofit organization that provides services for low-income and disadvantaged families. The FFA delivered 3,000 pounds of food to Community Action last year, and this is the first time the group tried to connect food from Orleans farms to local food pantries. The FFA set a goal to double that output this year. FFA students asked local farms to donate some of their produce and several farmers showed their generosity, surpassing the FFA goal. For their commitment to supporting local food pantries and engaging local farmers in the fight against hunger, we honor the Albion FFA members as Everyday Young Heroes. To nominate a young person who has improved their community through service to be recognized as an Everyday Young Hero, please visit www.ysa.org/awards/hero. |

Quote of the Week
| |
"General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. ... If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."
