 Staghorn and elkhorn corals are undersea architects, creating reef structures that support vast varieties of fish, sponges, lobsters and other marine creatures. Hit hard by disease, global warming and other stresses during the past 30 years, these corals have declined to a few isolated patches in the warm, sun-splashed waters that run from southern Palm Beach County to the islands of the Caribbean.But beginning with a chance discovery off Key Largo, where staghorn coral was found growing in an undersea farm for commercial aquarium rock, scientists have begun raising these corals in offshore nurseries with the goal of transplanting them into the wild... Dive Buddy volunteers; together with YOU bring Divers with Disabilities such as TBI (Traumatic Brain Injuries), Amputee, Blindness, Quadriplegia, Tourettes, Ceberal Palsy, and PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) to the beautiful reefs beneath the waves. Many people are SCUBA Diving and realizing the significance that freedom underwater makes in their lives both physically and pyschologically. DIVE BUDDY (BDT):
Certified SCUBA divers can learn to assist disabled divers both in the pool and open water as Volunteers by taking the opportunity to learn new skills, techniques, and sense of pride through Buddy Disability Training.
Next Class Date: Scheduled October 19-21 (BDT) at Miami Dade Fire Department Training Facility from 6pm-9pm classroom sessions and the weekend from 8am-4pm pool sessions. Become a Dive Buddy contact Instructor Worth O'Brien at 877-AQUA-TAG for Broward County.

Devistating Caribbean
Lionfish (Pterois Volitans) have been documented along the entire United States East Coast from Florida through Massachusetts, East to Bermuda and South throughout the Bahamas and in other Caribbean Islands such as Turks and Caicos and Cuba. The expansion has been extremely rapid and exponential in scope. We have seen some Lionfish ha e been located on the Captain Dan and Sea Emperor, also some divers have seen them off Boca Artificial Reef.

Explore the "Wreck Trek" in Deerfield Beach, which is a (3) shipwreck drift dive that includes the Ancient Mariner, Berry Patch Tug and Quallman Barge. You can easily navigate to each shipwreck on one dive. There are rebar stakes sticking up in the sand in between the wrecks to help guide you along. Navigation: Depending on the current you either start out on the Ancient Mariner or the Quallman Barge. Circumnavigate each wreck, then take a heading and follow the stakes to each shipwreck. If you leave from the Quallman Brage follow the stakes (240 degrees) to the reef edge. Then follow the reef edge until you either see a stake or the Berry Patch Tug on your left. The distance between the Ancient Mariner and the Berry Patch Tug is approximately 150' and the Tug to the Barge is approximately 600'. Be careful not to get your flag tangled on the wreck. Sometimes it easier if you are going to stay on the wreck for awhile to tie it off and then retrieve it when you're ready to move on.
