January 2012
Dear ,

As the new year begins, our thoughts turn to the future and to the exciting, new ways we'll be pursuing our goal of enhancing the core educational experience of engineering students all around the world.  We believe the stories in this issue of eNEWS demonstrate our commitment to motivating and graduating  global engineers capable of addressing engineering's grand challenges.

Read about some key strategies designed to enhance engineering education for the graduating global engineers of tomorrow.

Learn why Russian control professors were eager to learn about integrating their existing LabVIEW software and NI hardware with Quanser control experiments.

Get an overview of Quanser's plans for the future and how we're enhancing the overall lab experience for students at both ends of the undergraduate spectrum.

Take a look at a "hands-on" outreach event that brought together Quanser engineers and 20 Canadian high school students who were about to enter their first international robotics competition.

We wish you all the best in the new year and look forward to helping you captivate, motivate and graduate more young global engineers in 2012.

Sincerely,

Zuzana Fabusova, eNEWS Editor

Quanser and NI Offer Cost-Effective Solutions
Attendees flock to Quanser booth

As part of our ongoing process of integrating Quanser products and curriculum with National Instruments (NI) products and software, Quanser Applications Engineer Pasha Javid travelled to Russia in December to attend the Engineering, Scientific and Educational Applications Based on National Instruments Technologies Conference (ESEANITC). There he met with Russian controls professors and the young and energetic NI Russia sales team to introduce the growing capabilities available from the pairing of Quanser experiments with NI products to provide cost-effective solutions that meet Russian university teaching needs. The profs and the NI sales team were wowed by what Quanser brings to the table.

A Bird's Eye View of Quanser Initiatives
EEWeb Pulse Magazine EEWeb - Pulse magazine, a leading e-zine for the electrical engineering community, features not one but two stories about Quanser in its January 2012 issue. The first, an interview with Tom Lee, focuses on Tom's role as Quanser's Chief Education Officer and on how Quanser's engaged, hands-on approach to engineering education is designed to serve "the overall mandate of the university, as well as the emerging influences and trends of global industry." In the second article Tom will share some insights on new ways to recruit and retain engineering students through student-motivating initiatives.

Quanser and FRC Turn on Young Minds to Engineering

St. Robert Catholic High School in Markham, Ontario, Canada is entering as a "rookie" team in the 2012 FIRST Robotics Canada Competition - and Quanser is proud to be St. Robert's sponsor. To kick off our role as sponsor and advisors, and to get to know the kids a little better, we invited them to visit Quanser headquarters in December of 2011. Once here, they jumped at the opportunity to control our robots, talk to real engineers, and feel the excitement that's part of a life in engineering innovation. View the video and experience it from the kids' point of view!

In Your Own Words

"At Quanser, I found the kind of innovative solutions I was looking for. Their comprehensive approach is an effective model of curriculum innovation. It involves a combination of theory, practice, lab equipment and course materials. The result is an effective and deeper learning experience for the student.

Dr. Wonjong Joo, Seoul National University
of Science and Technology, Republic of Korea
