Dear ,

The word 'innovation' was used frequently in the articles commemorating lives of Steve Jobs, Apple's Co-Founder, and Dennis Richie, the man behind C programming language. Innovation is what engineering professors strive for in classrooms, their teaching and research labs. The open architecture design of Quanser's solutions allows them to do exactly that. In this issue of our newsletter, we want to share with you some examples:

Visit Quanser's new Rotary Control Lab YouTube Channel to see the innovative solutions developed by your peers. Comment on their work and share your innovations with the control community.

Reliable and flexible tools are what researchers need to advance their work. Learn what tools helped Dr. Constantinescu from the University of Victoria drive her innovative haptic-based rehabilitation research further and faster.

Engineering professor bringing innovative systems into teaching labs, often face the dilemma: to purchase, or build their own experiments? Find out what you should consider before you make a decision.

With innovation in mind, Quanser constantly improves its solutions. Read what new features the soon-to-be-released version of our control software QUARC 2.2 will bring.

Quanser has many tools for education and research in control, robotics and mechatronics. Drop us a line to discuss how we can help you achieve your teaching and research goals in the academic year 2011-2012, and beyond.

Sincerely,

Zuzana Fabusova, eNEWS Editor

Rotary Experiments Inspire Engineers
Quanser's Rotary Control Lab YouTube Channel Hundreds of engineering professors around the world use Quanser's rotary control experiments to teach controls and perform research. Quanser's open architecture design allows them to build their own controllers, curriculum and modules. See their innovative solutions on the new Quanser Rotary Control Lab YouTube Channel. Plus learn how Prof. Nise implemented the virtual versions of Quanser rotary experiments in his Control Systems Engineering textbook. Share your videos with the control community!

Is "Do It Yourself" an Alternative?
Quanser Lab Solutions vs. Engineering educators want to give their students experience with practical, hands-on experiments in the lab. Constrained by budgets, they often consider building the experiments themselves. It may seem to be a smart and economical solution, but there are other ways. Paul Karam, Quanser's Director of Engineering gives the issue a thorough look. Watch the video and learn what you should consider before you start building experiments yourself.
indFocused on QUARC:
QUARC 2.2: Improved Communication
QUARC 2.2 Controller Area Network (CAN) is used in many real-world medical, automotive, avionics and other complex systems. The soon-to-be-released version of Quanser's control software QUARC 2.2 will give users CAN bus access using Peak Systems' CAN interface devices. Read more on our engineering blog and let us know how you can use CAN bus in your research applications.

FeatureAdvancing Haptic Rehab Research

University of Victoria Customer Story
Dr. Constantinescu from the University of Victoria envisioned a cooperative haptic rehabilitation that patients could perform at their homes. To drive her haptic-based rehabilitation research further and faster, she needed a reliable haptic device, as well as a powerful control design software tool.
