NotesEditor's Note

While students try to make the best of a few more weeks of summer before returning to school, many educators are busy planning fall courses. That's why our August newsletter zooms in on exciting new tools to enhance your classroom and engineering lab:

* Stretch your budget with a unique offer of the rotary systems, now supported by new plug-and-play USB-based data acquisition solutions and power amplifiers from Quanser.

* Choose from the wide selection of earthquake simulators to give earthquake engineering students hands-on experience with structural dynamics.

* Accelerate your control design with the latest version of QUARC real-time control software.

* Take advantage of our expertise in control, mechatronics, robotics and haptics. Find out how to advance your research.

Before the new academic year starts, you also have a chance to learn from one of our engineers about innovative design techniques for mechatronic devices. Or see some of our latest innovations in action: visit us at IEEE CASE Conference in Toronto, Canada, or at UKACC in Coventry, UK. Plus our unmanned vehicle technology will be on in Singapore and Malaysia soon.

If these tools don't quite suite your needs, talk to us about your course or research. We can help.

Sincerely,
Zuzana Fabusova, eNEWS Editor

Strech Your Budget with New Peripherals

New peripheralsIf you are planning to captivate intermediate-level undergraduate students, the rotary motion experiments might be the right fit. With ten different modules you can teach various control concepts and help your students bridge the gap between theory and real life. With Quanser's newly released peripherals, the lab set up takes less time. USB-based data acquisition solutions Q2-USB and Q8-USB, paired with VoltPAQ power amplifier provide a reliable real-time platform for teaching and research. This fall you can take an advantage of a unique offer that will help you stretch your budget and give your students the best hands-on education.

Simulate an Earthquake in Your Lab

Quanser Shake Tables A few weeks ago Ontario experienced an earthquake strong enough to shake even part of the U.S. Luckily - no damage, but still a reminder how important earthquake engineering is in design of our buildings, bridges and dams. Coincidentally, same topic was discussed at the recent Conference on Earthquake Engineering in Toronto. Engineering students need to understand how structures respond to powerful tremors. To help them learn and explore structural dynamics, Quanser developed a number of linear-motor-powered shake tables including the portable Shake Table I-40, the heavy-load Shake Table II, x-y planar Shake Table III and multi-axial 6 DOF parallel robotic platform, the Hexapod. You will find one that best fits your needs - whether you want to give students hands-on experience in the lab, or need an experimental platform for your advanced research.

Accelerate Control Design with v2.1

QUARC 2.1Quite often we hear from the users of QUARC how it makes their control design easier and faster. With the new version of the rapid prototyping control software QUARC 2.1, things will get even better. The new software version is compatible with MS Windows 7 and QNX Neutrino 6.5 operating systems and with MATLAB R2010a software. New and improved features allow to measure computation time and monitor performance, to name just two. Plus we added support for more data acquisition cards, new interfaces with third-party devices, such as Denso robots and PTI Visualeyez vision tracking system. All this and much more can accelerate your work - whether in a teaching or research lab. Try it free - request a 30-day trial.

In Your Own Words

Purdue University logo"It has been a lot of fun working with Quanser's equipment and teaching students things they wouldn't otherwise have a chance to see. The experiments show them how theory and real life are interconnected."
