DIY Vacation Tip:

If you are traveling away from home this summer, keep these tips in mind so you can have a worry-free vacation:

  • Lock all windows and doors
  • Use timers on lights
  • Use alarm systems
  • Don't post on social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc) that you will be away from home
  • Stop paper and mail delivery
  • Give a trusted neighbor or friend a key to check your house while you are gone
  • Shut off your water heater and water to save energy
  • Lock all valuables in your safe... be sure it is bolted down
  • Don't leave ladders and other tools in sight... they can be used to break in!
  • Lock all exterior sheds, garages and outbuildings

Town of Groton Public Library Senior Center

We recently had a call from the Groton Library Director, Betty Anne Reiter, for a sampling of locks and a special key.  As part of the One Book, One Region, (see The Day article)  the Groton Library is promoting the reading of "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" by Jonathan Safran Foer, which is listed on the New York Times Bestseller list.

The story is about a 9 year old who has embarked on an urgent, secret mission that will take him through the five boroughs of New York.  His goal is to find the lock that matches a mysterious key that belonged to his father, who died in the World Trade Center on the morning of September 11.

This seemingly impossible task will bring the boy into contact with survivors of all sorts on an exhilarating, affecting, often hilarious, and ultimately healing journey.

As Security Solution Specialists, we are honored that the Groton Library asked us to provide the materials for this display.  Stop by the Groton Library, take a look, and read this fascinating book!

DIY Summer Tip:

Damp Rid

Summertime is always high in humidity in our area. Just a reminder to check your safe and replace the DampRid (or put one in!). This will help keep the humidity levels in check and protect your valuables. See our archived newsletters for more info.

You can always reach us personally by phone at 860-464-8664, from 8:30 am through 5 pm, weekdays.   You will never get an answering service or machine during these hours.  We hope you find this information helpful and look forward to hearing from you soon!  We welcome your input about our E newsletter.  Drop us a note at AALK@aol.com !

Yours in safety and security,
