Security Mistakes to Avoid...

Ok, so comparing locksmithing to surgery is a little dramatic!  But you get the point!  In a continuation of a recent brainstorming session, Dave and Bob came up with two more critical security mistakes to avoid as well as some helpful solutions:

April's #1 Mistake:

Trying to repair or fix locks without knowledge of the mechanics of the lock...many locks are literally brought to us in pieces in a bag from failed attempts at repair, which in turn costs the customer more money.

AA Lock & Key's Recommendation:  Attempting to repair a broken or worn lock compromises the locks' ability to function correctly, resulting in potential security breaches and lost time.  As soon as the lock shows any sign of dysfunction, give us a call.  We may be able to provide an over-the-phone solution, or suggest next steps.

April's #2 Mistake:

Purchasing locks at "big box stores"~price vs. product quality and improper usage

AA Lock & Key's Recommendation:  Sure, you can run to the local "big box store" and get a great price for a lock that does not meet your needs.  The price looks good~but does it really meet what you need for security for your building?  Will it be the right backset?  Will it hold up to normal wear and tear?  We have the knowledge base to advise you on your purchase and key it to your existing key as you wait!

Dave & Debbie,

I would like to thank AA Lock & Key for the prompt service they have provided to our office the past few years. The first time was an emergency when a safe broke in the locked position. You responded quickly and saved us from days of downtime by drilling the safe open so we could move the contents to another safe while you repaired the broken one and replaced the lock with a new electronic lock. We then had you replace more locks before they failed and hope to eventually have you replace all of them. You also responded quickly when we recently had trouble with a safe lock that was becoming a problem and you were able to repair it before it failed. We really appreciate your efforts and look forward to a continuing relationship.

Hotel Security Travel Tips

After a friend's recent unsettling experience at a hotel, we thought it prudent to serve up some personal security tips relevant to traveling.  Your hotel room becomes your home for the night and is your sanctuary while you sleep. You should put some thought into what hotel or motel are you going to select, and what room you are willing to accept? The cost of the hotel room is not always the best predictor of how safe the room will be. There are a few security rules of thumb that should apply to any hotel room you rent.  Here are a few quick tips..

History of AA Lock & Key -

Chapter 13

We have employed quite a few lock techs over the years, as we said previously, some for a day and some for years...applicants have run the gamut...read on...

Then there was the guy who worked about 3 weeks.  He started out pretty well...but we could see a definite trend toward his being pretty uptight.  He actually told Kathy that she was holding her pencil too tightly.  We still chuckle about this today!
