Welcome to the June '10 update of Your Campus Green Builder!  This month, we would like to highlight the "walking the extra mile" attitude in demonstrating our Higher Education Community's sustainability commitment and efforts.  We hope you will find the featured stories, resources and events in this update helpful in enhancing your institution's knowledge on how to self-assess your campus' sustainability progress and take it to the next level. Spotlight on Resources_______________________________________

Building for Environmental and Economic Sustainability (BEES) is a free downloadable program to help measure the environmental life-cycle assessments of building products.  The latest version of BEES incorporates more than 200 building products, with 80 brand-specific products.

Green Globes is an environmental design and management tool that has online assessment protocol, rating systems, and guidance for green building design, operation and management.

Hidden Costs of Energy: Unpriced Consequences of Energy Production and Use is a guide book that helps define and evaluate the key external costs and benefits that are associated with the production, distribution and use of energy, but often not reflected in market prices.

"My Experience at the 2nd UNCF Building Green Learning Institute"--Van Du, an intern with Second Nature's Advancing Green Building in Higher Education Initiative, shares her thoughts on the second UNCF's 2nd Building Green Learning Institute in Minneapolis, MN.

"Howard U Bookstore Employs Go Green Marketing Strategy"--Howard University Bookstore (HUB) partnered  with local businesses to promote eco-friendly products and food on campus, contributing to the university's green profile.

Richland College

As part of the institution's commitment to sustainability and climate neutrality, Richland College has decided that all new building constructions on the campus will adhere to (at least) LEED® Silver standards. In addition to being an original signatory of the ACUPCC, the college is also one of the twelve higher education institutions chosen to be part of the Accelerating Campus Climate Change Initiative- a collaborative project by RMI and AASHE.
