It seems that we need to learn two life skills for survival: an eagerness to listen (v.24) and the willingness to accept help (v.25). Sometimes we don't accept help because of pride, but that's not always the case.

Over the course of my 20-year career as a radio talk show host, I've met and interviewed a lot of fascinating people. Many of them are household names which you would recognize instantly.


Tom Snyder, the 46-year-old owner of the regional Colonial Life Insurance office here in Garden Ridge, has got to be one of the most intriguing people I've met in a long time. He's not famous. He's not a political leader. And he hasn't even written a book.

But he's spearheading a unique Christian ministry in our own backyard whose vision is as big as the Texas sky.

Now that he has become a successful businessman, Tom, a member of River City Community Church here in San Antonio, has a passion to give back to the community - especially to the children in demonstrable, life-changing ways.


That's why he founded Trinity Oaks, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. At the heart of the ministry are the youth hunts for 10 to 16-year-olds. Throughout their time, the young people experience firearms safety instruction, target shooting and actual big game hunting.

In the process, Tom wants to give the tweens and teens access to the great outdoors, to build their character, and to teach them the importance of responsibility in our narcissistic culture.

"Our goal with youth is three-fold. First, we want to teach kids that hunting is not just about 'killing animals', but also about building relationships and enjoying God's majestic outdoors. Second, we want to promote our country's hunting heritage to future generations," said Tom Snyder.

"Third and most importantly, we want to show children of all ages that they have value and let them know there are people who care about them, people willing to listen to them and mentor them. We have found you can really reach a child and make a difference in his life just by sitting next to a campfire and listening to what he has to say."

During the 2010/2011 hunting season alone, Tom personally acted as the lead field guide for every one of the 20 youth hunts attended by 85 young people, 53 of whom were first-time hunters. Typically, each hunt is comprised of 3-5 youngsters along with their fathers and some volunteer guides. Each youth is assigned to an adult.

Their goal for the upcoming 2011/2012 hunting season is to have 30 youth hunts attended by 100 kids and 75 first-time children hunters.


Amazingly, Trinity Oaks covers every single expense including the cost of transportation, the lease of the land, the hunting license fees as well as the food, lodging and the mounting of the child's wildgame trophy.

All the meat is processed for free by volunteers, ground up and frozen into family packs. It's then distributed to needy families and homeless shelters throughout San Antonio as well as orphanages in Mexico.

EVANGELICALS HOPE S.C. WINNOWS GOP FIELD


Conservative Christian leaders have scaled back their goals for a meeting to be held in Texas on Friday and Saturday, acknowledging that they are unlikely to agree on a single alternative candidate to Mitt Romney until after the South Carolina primary on Jan. 21, if then.


Scores of politically influential evangelicals plan to attend the meeting, but the original dream of coalescing around one candidate of the religious right - Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum or Rick Perry - is unrealistic for now, several leaders said in interviews this week. If one of those candidates surges in South Carolina, or in the Florida primary on Jan. 31, pressure will grow on the others to step back, the leaders said.

It's conventional wisdom in Republican circles here in South Carolina that if Mitt Romney wins the state's primary this Saturday -- having already won in Iowa and New Hampshire -- he'll be the GOP presidential nominee.

"If for some reason he's not derailed here and Mitt Romney wins South Carolina -- no one's ever won all three -- I think it should be over," Sen. Lindsey Graham said Sunday. "That would be quite a testament to his ability as a candidate and a campaigner."

But what if Romney did not actually win Iowa? That could change the calculation considerably. And there is a very real chance that the Republican Party of Iowa will announce this week that Rick Santorum, and not Romney, won the Iowa caucuses.

ROOFTOP SNIPER SHOOTS SAN FRAN BICYCLIST


A bicyclist was injured in a shooting in Richmond early Monday morning, and told police that he was shot by a sniper on a rooftop. No matter how bizarre it may sound, so far in the investigation police say they believe the victim's story.


A train operator at the BNSF Richmond Railyard discovered the injured bicyclist shortly after 3 a.m., Richmond police said.

A pastor encouraging his congregation to have sex? It may sound unlikely, but it's what one prominent Texas pastor is doing this weekend, with a 24 hour rooftop "bed-in" with his wife.

The Costa Concordia's captain did abandon ship before hundreds of his passengers, it has emerged via a transcript of a conversation between him and the local coastguard.


Francesco Schettino, who was this afternoon pictured being taken into a Grosseto courthouse to be questioned by investigating magistrate Valeria Montesarchio, also lied to the Captain of the Port of Livorno's Coastguard when asked how many people were on board the sinking liner, it emerged today.

OBAMA: I'M GOING TO DISNEY WORLD


President Barack Obama will visit Walt Disney World on Thursday to "unveil a strategy that will significantly help boost tourism and travel," a White House aide said today.


The president is expected to deliver his remarks inside the Magic Kingdom, with Disney's iconic Cinderella Castle as backdrop. Mitt Romney, contending he was born in Mexico or that his father was not an American citizen at the time of his birth.

Darwin Day is coming up on Sunday, February 12th, as the pagans celebrate the birthday of Charles Darwin, the man who rejected God and invented the false theory of evolution.

The San Antonio Bible-Based Science Association wants to urge you to contact your pastor and suggest that he might prayerfully consider preaching a creationist message on Darwin Day as well as distributing creationist church bulletin inserts that proclaim the Biblical truth. Christians understand that man is God's crowning glory to creation, made with a divine purpose in mind. The pagans believe that man is nothing more than an animal, or worse yet, just a bunch of chemicals and chemical reactions.

Sadly, too many Christians, who should know better, have themselves rejected the clear teaching of Scripture. They have tried to put some lipstick on Darwin's evolution pig by proclaiming a belief in "theistic evolution." In other words, they contend that (a) there is a God and (b) that God created the earth and all living things through macro-evolution.

To be honest, that is a lie straight from the pit of hell!

Shockingly, some Christians believe that God created through theistic evolution.


Werner Gitt, in an article entitled 10 Dangers of Theistic Evolution, explains:

"The atheistic formula for evolution is:

"Evolution = matter + evolutionary factors (chance and necessity + mutation + selection + isolation + death) + very long time periods.

"In the theistic evolutionary view, God is added:

"Theistic evolution = matter + evolutionary factors (chance and necessity + mutation + selection + isolation + death) + very long time periods + God.

"In this system God is not the omnipotent Lord of all things, whose Word has to be taken seriously by all men, but He is integrated into the evolutionary philosophy. This leads to 10 dangers for Christians including both the denial of central Biblical teachings and the fact that the Biblical basis of Jesus' work of redemption is mythologized."

The creation account in Genesis is not a fairy tale. It is both historically and scientifically accurate. It's time that Christ-followers take a stand against the teachings and celebration of Charles Darwin.

In anticipation of the Sunday, February 12th celebration and virtual idol worship of Charles Darwin in this post-Christian world, why not use the occasion of his birthday to educate, equip and empower Christians with the truth?

It's time to draw a line in the sand. No longer will we allow the Darwinian evolutionists to turn unbelievers, much less the body of Christ, away from the truth of the Bible and ultimately away from God.

HOLLYWOOD PRAISES GOD WITH 'JOYFUL NOISE'

With Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah leading a talented vocal cast (including the awe-inspiring pipes of Keke Palmer and Jeremy Jordan) in a film about Gospel show choirs, it's no surprise that "Joyful Noise" is anything but "noise."

Several of the musical numbers in the film give rise to goose bumps, with soulful solos, joyful jams and heavenly harmonies. Spanning several musical styles and performed with gusto, the music in "Joyful Noise" is uplifting, convicting and well worth the price of admission, no matter your musical taste.
But "Joyful Noise" portrays God as only about love, while ignoring that He is also holy.

Many of the characters, though they sing of God, seem oblivious to the call on their lives to follow Him. Bitterness, envy, unforgiveness, manipulation, fornication - sin seems to be just a laughing matter in "Joyful Noise," and those that question its acceptance are too often portrayed as overly strict or even archaic.

With two wins under his belt, Mitt Romney holds a significant lead among national Republican voters, though there is still room for conservative voters to unite against him and back an alternative to be the GOP presidential nominee, according to the latest The Washington Times/JZ Analytics Poll.

His showing puts him on par with the past three Republican nominees at this point in 1996, 2000 and 2008, and just as striking, he seems to have quelled much of the anyone-but-Romney sentiment that has characterized the race until now.
