Zero energy homes gaining popularity

David Johnston, author of Toward a Zero Energy Home: A Complete Guide to Energy Self-Sufficiency at Home, was recently interviewed by USA Today about the increasing popularity of zero energy homes among new construction -- from affordable, smaller homes to luxury homes.

Johnston recommends the use of spray foam insulation and Energy Star qualified windows to increase HVAC efficiency. He also highly recommends undergoing an energy audit for your home to highlight how air moves in and out of the house. An energy audit can pinpoint areas using an infrared camera where insulation may be lacking.
