Hamline School of Business Weekly Update
September 25, 2009
Special Event
Hamline School of Business
invites you to a panel discussion on:
A Test of Character: Ethics in the World of Work

It can be argued that the current financial crisis was, in large part, created by moral failings on the part of people working within American corporations, government and regulatory agencies. This panel will focus on both the theory and practice of ethics, particularly in the realms of business and government, in order to stimulate reflection on how moral people and actions can be cultivated and supported, and how moral failure can be reduced and its impact minimized. Various approaches to ethics will be described and discussed, with special attention paid to the implications of different ethical approaches for people preparing for careers in management and for leadership positions in the public and private sectors. Topics will include the roles of reason, emotion, and character in ethics; the connection between models of decisionmaking in ethics and economics; and the significance of situational factors in shaping our ethical decisions. Discussion among panelists and members of the audience will be a major part of the event.

Date: Tuesday, October 13
Time: 4:00 - 5:45 p.m.
Location: Drew Science 118
RSVP to hsb@hamline.edu so that we can order refreshments.

This Hamline Dialogue brings together leaders from across all three sectors to address the growing need for cross-sector leadership and cooperation. What does it look like? When is it necessary? How do we best make it work?
