Opting LA Out of Obama's Subsidized Abortion Legislative Session Preview Post Health Care Reform
Greetings!, These are the times that test our convictions...On Sunday night, instead of sticking with the principles of the Hyde Amendment that
segregate the business of abortion from our government, President Obama and
Congress decided for America that abortion was health care and worthy to be
funded. The Executive Order agreed
on by Cong. Stupak and President Obama does not fix these grave concerns,
and can be rescinded at anytime.
Tragically, our government is now in the business of providing abortion on demand. We are thankful that all seven Louisiana Congressmen and Senator Vitter voted against the measure, and we are disappointed Senator Landrieu chose abortion over Louisiana values. Understanding the abortion expanding aspects of this bill, this fight for us was never about left or right, "scoring political points", or personal gain. Instead, it was about our "special interest": the individual unborn lives that will never have the chance to celebrate their own birthday because of this "reform". But, I believe we forget the lives of the unborn we represent if we decide to pack up our bags and go home. These are the times that test our convictions, and it is time for us to respond. For our part, we are moving forward, and taking Louisiana with us. Louisiana's legislative session begins this Monday. And from Monday till the end of June, we will be making great strides for life in Baton Rouge. Here are our two main efforts for this session:- Opting Louisiana Out of Subsidized Abortion
On Monday morning, before the President even signed the bill, we were on the phone with State Rep. Frank Hoffman discussing legislation that would opt Louisiana out of having to offer health care plans eligible for federal abortion subsidies.
We are currently working with Rep. Hoffman and the Jindal Administration to draft this legislation and pass it in the coming months. While this certainly does not solve all the problems of the health care bill, it at least takes a little of the sting off here at home.
- The Ultrasound Before Abortion Act (SB 528)
As we alluded to last week, we are tremendously excited about the "Ultrasound Before Abortion Act" authored by Senator Sharon Weston Broome and supported by Governor
Jindal.
Over the past six months, we have been working with experts to craft this groundbreaking legislation empowering women to know the truth about abortion. Not only will it require abortion facilities to perform ultrasounds before every abortion and show them to the woman (they can choose to look or not), but every woman will receive an ultrasound print out of their unborn child before their abortion! No other state has done this!
As studies have shown, women are 2-3 times more likely to choose to parent or pursue adoption after seeing an ultrasound. Not only do we hope women will be fully informed about abortion, but in knowing the truth, they will have the freedom to make a better choice.
Check out this Times-Picayune article on the SB 528.
Check out all the details on this legislation by visiting www.ProLifeLouisiana.org/Ultrasound.
Please stay tuned as the session progresses, and be ready to assist us by contacting your legislators in support of these critical measures! Forward this email to educate others about the positive measures we are pursuing together to move Louisiana forward for life! For a Pro-Life Louisiana, Benjamin Clapper Executive Director Louisiana Right to Life P.S. If you can, I encourage you to contribute online to our legislative efforts. We will be at the Capitol every week, and sometimes everyday, representing both the unborn and you, the pro-life people of Louisiana! We need your support! Follow this link, fill out the form, and be sure to write "legislative" in the comment box. Thanks! |
