VOLUNTEER CORNER

Greetings!

This past year I was blessed with the opportunity to fill the Front Office Administrative Assistant position.  It was wonderful to meet not only our clients in person but many of the individuals from our community who come in to volunteer their time.

As I begin my second year at Western Fairfax Christian Ministries, I look forward to the challenges and adventures that will come with the position of being Volunteer Manager.  We are so blessed to have such a solid core group of volunteers!  Early on I was impressed by many of our "regular" volunteers who have dedicated hundreds of hours and many years of their time to WFCM.  The love and care that is given to our clients from our volunteers is heartwarming.  I hope to share that with you in the future some of these "corner" entries.

We continue to be blessed by a number of individuals and groups who want to volunteer their time with us on a one time basis, during their summer break or for required community service.  We are thankful for each and everyone one of our volunteers and pray that they will fill appreciated and know that they are blessing our community with their time and skills.

Interested in volunteering?  Please contact me at via email or call me directly at (703) 988-9656, x.110.  There is also additional information on our website--including the volunteer application

Blessings,

Annette Bosley

IMPORTANT!
Food Drives
grocery bag

Food Drives must be on our calendar!

We appreciate your donations but ask that you call first to help us prepare for your delivery and to ensure that there are enough volunteers to manage the volume of incoming donations.

Food Drives are needed during the spring and summer (April - August) months.

During the winter and fall, however, the need is less prevalent.

Please visit our website for a current listing of donations hours.

Thank you!

July's Volunteer of the Month!

Claudia Ruiz has been a volunteer at WFCM since October 2009.   She has been a tremendous asset to our team.  She has translated some of our documents from English to Spanish, worked in the food pantry assisting clients with their food selections, assisted our EFS manager as a translator when needed and has filled in as the Administrative Assistant in the Front Office answering phones, greeting clients, and making appointments.

Claudia enjoys dancing, working out at the gym and reading.  She was raised in Bogata, Colombia and currently lives in Chantilly with her husband.  Claudia has one daughter who works and lives in Columbia.

Claudia is a trained nutritionist and is looking forward to starting to work again in that field.  She loves volunteering at WFCM and said that it has been a great experience.  She hopes her new work schedule will allow her to continue volunteering with us.

Claudia has such a wonderful spirit, and is enthusiastic and kind.  Our staff enjoys being around her and has been blessed by her presence.  Thanks for all that you do, Claudia!

WFCM's Annual Backpack Drive to Support Local School Children

Each year WFCM collects backpacks for the 24 elementary, middle and high schools located in Clifton, Centreville, Chantilly, Fairfax Station and the 22033 area of Fairfax.  These new packs are provided at no cost to those students receiving free or reduced cost lunches.  School counselors have requested over 1,000 packs for the 2010-2011 school year.

If you would like to help, please drop off your donation of a new, large-size backpack (NO WHEELS, PLEASE) any time this summer prior to August 19.  The packs will be delivered directly to the schools sometime during the week of August 24.

Our address is 13981 Metrotech Drive in Chantilly.

Thanks so much for your support!

Please contact Pam Ryan with any questions.
