Make the most of your summer!

Summer can be an excellent season for music and dance study. With summer vacation, there is more time to practice for private music lessons while dance classes offer a great way to stay active and make new friends.

For Summer Private Music Lessons, students continuing their studies from the academic year may have the registration fee waived (there is no registration deadline). The summer lesson schedule has a great deal of flexibility, allowing families to work around vacation plans if necessary. Talk to your private teacher about plans for summer lessons.

Download the Summer Private Lesson Registration Packet here.

dance 2011Summer Dance Programs will run from June 27 to August 8. Discovery Ballet and Children's Ballet are offered at both the Hartford and Simsbury locations. Foundation Ballet and Teen & Adult Classes will only be offered at the Hartford Location. Returning students from the academic year may have registration fees waived if registration is received by June 1. Students may choose to register for the whole 6-week session or for fewer classes.

Download the Summer Dance Registration Packet here.

We hope to see you over the summer!

Hartt Piano Performance Achievement Days

Audition Preview Day

Saturday, April 28, 2012

Join us for Audition Preview Day, a special event for middle school students preparing to audition for our ensemble program for the first time.  This jam-packed session for middle school students is designed so that these students may see The Hartt School Community Division in action first-hand while meeting other young musicians. Students will observe rehearsals, participate in a music theory class, and work on their solo piece, scales, and sight-reading techniques with faculty. Sign-Up Now and join us this Saturday, April 28, 2012.

Compser John Mackey Visits the Hartt Community Division

On Saturday, April 28, award winning composer John Mackey will visit the Community Division to work with Philharmonia Winds and our Young Composers Project (YCP) students. Mr. Mackey will be in Bliss Music Room from 10:00 to 11:00 am working with Philharmonia Winds on his 2011 composition Foundry. At 11:15 am Mr. Mackey will work with YCP students on their current compositions.

Alan Francis, the Director of Philharmonia Winds, came across Foundry while researching repertoire for Philharmonia Winds and included the piece for this semester. Mr. Francis has said, "When I first heard the piece it reached out and not only spoke to me, it grabbed me and pulled me in. It's a well written and powerful piece. I am confident that John will offer insights to us about this piece and inspiration to our student composers."

Interested in the composition? All HCD students and families are welcome to observe the Philharmonia Winds rehearsal.
