University of Hartford Spring Fling Weekend: April 19-22

The University's annual Spring Fling Weekend is April 19-22, 2012. Activities associated with the Spring Fling Weekend will impact access to the campus and probably will create traffic congestion on Bloomfield Avenue.

Please note the following:

    • On Thursday, April 19 beginning at noon, the University's north gate and Mark Twain Drive gate will be closed. Only the main entrance (with the traffic light) will be open for entering and exiting the campus until Sunday morning, April 22.
    • Beginning Thursday at noon and continuing throughout the weekend, all vehicles entering campus will pass through a security checkpoint. This will cause possible traffic backups and delays. Please plan your travel time to and from campus accordingly.
    • Anyone entering campus should be prepared for the possibility of being asked where they are going. They may be asked to show a University ID, an event ticket or a membership card (i.e. physical therapy appointment or fitness center membership ID) to gain campus access.
    • All residential students have been asked to park on the residential side of campus throughout the weekend. Students' guests will be asked to park in lots on the academic side of campus. Due to guest and event parking, it may be more difficult to find a space in your usual lot. Please practice patience and add extra travel time for this purpose.
    • Effective Thursday at noon and throughout the weekend, anyone seeking access to the residential side of campus, either walking or driving, will be stopped and asked to show a University ID or, in the case of students and their guests, a wristband. Faculty and students who have classes on the residential side of campus should make special note of this. Students can pick up their free wristbands in Suisman Lounge beginning Monday, April 16 at 10 a.m.
    • There are several non-Spring Fling-related performing arts and sports events on campus on Friday and Saturday that are open to the public. If you or someone you know are planning to attend an event, please practice patience, build in extra travel time, and be prepared to say what event you are going to at the checkpoint.

The University gates will reopen by 5 a.m. on Sunday, April 22, and the checkpoint will end.

The Sound of Success:

Suzuki Method for Guitar

SAAThe Suzuki Association of the Americas (SAA) recently presented a new, informative introduction to Suzuki Guitar. Whether you are a parent or a classical guitarist interested in teaching, the information is now available in the video "The Sound of Success: Suzuki Method for Guitar."

For more about Suzuki Guitar, see The Suzuki Guitar Experience, an overview of the Suzuki philosophy and a history of the development of the Suzuki Method for classical guitar.

This introductory video is the work of the SAA Guitar Committee and producer Laura Wong Burnett. Hartt Community Division Guitar Chair David Madsen was an integral contributor to this project. We hope you enjoy the video.
