2012 Summit Volunteer and Scholarship Deadline

Summit Scholarships

Each year, Out & Equal awards scholarships to people who might otherwise not be able to attend the Workplace Summit due to financial reasons or because their employer is not supportive of LGBT issues. The scholarship program helps keep the cost of Summit low, which allows wider accessibility to this unique event. Scholarship recipients are usually students, non-profit employees, underemployed or unemployed.

To apply for a scholarship, fill out a scholarship application as soon as possible. Contact Associate Director of Events, Dani Siragusa at 415.694.6519 with questions.

Individual Volunteers
We are now accepting applications for Out & Equal Summit Volunteers. The deadline to apply has been extended; please apply ASAP. After completing the application, you will be e-mailed with information on how to complete the volunteer registration application. Then, a week or two before Summit, you will be sent your volunteer schedule.

Group Volunteers
If you are interested in organizing a team of volunteers or if you represent a group, do not fill out the volunteer application form; contact Emma Mishel directly ASAP at [email protected] or 415.694.6537 with all questions regarding the volunteer program as well as the scholarship program.

Out & Equal's LGBTCareerLink Shifts into Overdrive

Posting an average of 10,000 jobs and hosting 5,200 job hunters every month means we are shifting into overdrive with a new job board technology that positions our LGBT talent recruitment tool for continued growth. We are making sure our job board meets the talent acquisition needs of the growing number of employers who view Out & Equal as the number one place to source professional LGBT employees now and in the future.

Both job hunters and employers will enjoy upgraded account controls and a variety of new features and tools.

LGBT Talent Recruiting Tip One

When it comes to targeting LGBT professionals, using the well-known large job boards is not the best way to reach out and hire LGBT employees. While resumes by the many thousands may be accessible there, chances are only a small percentage of them belong to viable LGBT professionals. And how would talent acquisition teams know for sure they are actually targeting the LGBT workforce there?

In contrast, Out & Equal's LGBTCareerLink, the first and only LGBT-focused job board, is a value-oriented talent recruiting tool where reaching the LGBT workforce is a given. After all, Out & Equal has been in this business for a long time!

Purchase a sponsorship subscription prior to Dec. 31, 2012 at this year's pricing and your company will be automatically migrated to our new job board.

Meet Teddy Witherington, Director of Events

Teddy Witherington
Teddy Witherington, Director of Events at Out & Equal

Teddy joined the Out & Equal team at the end of June, 2012. With an impressive background in events, the team is thrilled to have Teddy join us.

Teddy was born and raised in London, England. After graduating from college, he spent ten years working in private client and non-profit law. In 1991, Teddy joined the London Lesbian and Gay Pride Committee as its Executive Director until 1997. Since then he has worked as the first-ever Executive Director for the San Francisco Pride Committee as well as the Executive Director of the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus. In an attempt to tap into his infinite events planning wisdom, we have let him settle in and find the tea stash, but now we're following up with the BIG questions.

See what Teddy has to say about his work at Out & Equal as well as the upcoming Workplace Summit here, and please visit the Out & Equal Staff page to read his full bio.

Have Colleagues in Hong Kong?

If so, spread the word that November 6-7 Out & Equal is a sponsoring organization of the Community Business Diversity & Inclusion in Asia Conference. The conference is the primary forum for discussion of diversity issues as they relate to business in Asia. It caters to the interests and needs of senior business leaders, corporate HR and diversity practitioners, as well as diversity consultants and other active players from the academic, NGO and government sectors.

Out & Equal Deputy Director Kevin Jones will be attending, and would enjoy the chance to see your Asia-based colleagues then. Contact Kevin via email
to set up a time to connect.

United for Marriage Collecting Donated Airline Miles

United for Marriage (www.unitedformarriage.org) is a national project of the three major LGBT Organizations to recruit, coordinate and send volunteers to the four states with gay marriage on the ballot this November: Maine, Maryland, Minnesota and Washington.

In order to help send people who otherwise may not be able to participate in promoting marriage equality in these states, United for Marriage is asking others to donate airline miles to pay for volunteers' airfare. Anyone can easily donate some of their frequent flyer miles by filling out this form.
