 Happy New Year!- I'm
sure a few of you are still out paddling - it's drysuit & balaclava
season! But for many of us, our
boats are stored away, and the skis & skates are at the back door (mine sure are).
It's the first office week for me in the Paddle Canada office here
in Kingston. Sorry about the length of this first enewsletter of the new year but there are lots of important things to share with you. So grab a coffee and read on!
The address and telephone remain the same even though the office
has moved across town. The office hours have changed slightly - view them here. New are Thursday evening hours (8 pm - 10 pm EST) for
those members who would like to call me after your work day. The
volume of emails (both past & present) is rather large at the moment. Thank you for your patience during our time of transition at the office during the month of December. A big thanks to some of our directors who helped deal with phone calls and emails in the absence of a full time office staff. A special thanks to Priscilla Haskin for helping with the office transition. If you want to
learn more about who's at the other end of the keyboard or telephone line now,
there's a nice little intro blurb about me in the next issue of the Winter
Kanawa.
Speaking of Kanawa -
it's being mailed out the end of this week. If anyone does not receive their copy by the end of January
please let me know and we'll get one out to you toute suite (or perhaps it's
because you need to renew your membership). This leads me to......
Membership - All
instructor memberships expired Dec. 31/09 while you were out celebrating New
Years! (except those who renewed after Nov 30/09 - you are ok til end of next
year) So it's time to renew, you instructor types out there. General
members need not worry right now but it is still worth having a look at your
account to make sure your number's not up. Login into your account now!
Learn more about your membership benefits: Please contact me if you need help accessing your account.
Instructors please note that in order to view, edit, pay for any past courses or to
register new 2010 courses, you will need to first pay member dues before
the system will allow you access to "Instructor Services". If you can find it
your heart to part early with membership dollars, our accounting department would really
appreciate it. This way we can pay for shipping of your 2010 Calendars
too!!! Which leads me to....
2010 Heritage River Calendars - A few have already been mailed and the remainder will go out by mid
Jan (sorry for the delay). We are changing the way calendars are delivered
this year meaning all 2010 members
will get a 2011 calendar in Dec. 2010 - before Christmas even! This is different from past years, where
upon renewal, a calendar would be mailed out. We figured who wanted a calendar when signing up in April
for a membership?
Waterwalker Film Festival - The
Waterwalker Film Festival is gearing up for an exciting new year of paddling
films for the 2010 season. Paddling clubs, not-for-profit organizations,
outfitters and individuals can host a Waterwalker Film Festival. We provide the show and you
provide the site. It's easy and we'll help. So why not host a showing in your
area. We provide an exciting line-up of films on canoeing, kayaking and the environment.

2010 ATLANTIC CANADIAN PADDLING SYMPOSIUM - is May 14-16
- we are excited about another successful and fun event out east. So please marke your calendars and join us! Online registration will be available soon - view more info here
That's all for now. I'll try to keep it shorter next time! Looking forward to another great paddling season in Canada plus talking and meeting many of the members this year!
Sincerely,
Graham Ketcheson Executive Director info@paddlingcanada.com
