| Peel Federation of Agriculture Honours 2011 Farm Family of the Year | | |
On November 19, 2011 the Peel Federation of Agriculture held its annual banquet in honour of its selection for the Peel Farm Family of the Year.
This year's award winner was the Sheard Family of Sunnymead Farms in Caledon - located at 12587 Dixie Road (just north of Mayfield Road).
During the ceremony, the Sheards received accolades and expressions of respect from Peel Federation of Agriculture executive as well as fellow farmers, including Bob Brander - whose family has worked closely with the Sheard family for approximately 90 years.
Sunnymead Farms operates a cattle feedlot which feeds about 1,500 head of cattle at a time, and finishes about 3,500 per year for market. This accounts for about two million pounds of dressed beef annually, which is enough to feed approximately 38,000 people.
