Featured Artists for the July Second Saturdays Art Exhibits are:
Ben Hawkins featured on Rare Visions and Roadside Revelations on KCPT Channel 19 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKr5GM20XNI) will show his unique art form of Whimsical Rubbish. We will also spotlight Students' Artwork from the Turner School District. The artwork on display is from Turner Middle and Junction Primary Schools' art classes conducted by Alcott during the 2009-10 school year. We will once again host an Open Jam Session. We invite anyone wanting to get together and jam with others to stop in. The Arts Center will open at 6pm with a reception at 6:30pm and run until 10pm.

Featuring kids rides, ponies, youth dancing, horse show from El Rancho Jerezano and clowns, going till midnight with all the local stars on stage. This will kick off with the new show already on air on Los Grande's Radio 1340am,  Monday - Friday from 8 - 9 pm. David Holguin  promoting local talent.

The year is half gone, but there's still time to catch a FREE CPR and Disaster Training class this year!  Approximately 30 people are getting trained each month on CPR in our community ... Wow!  What a unique way to make our Downtown a safer place to Live, Work and Play!  Don't miss your opportunity - 6 classes left!

NEXT CLASS - July 27!
 
As a benefit of working (or living) Downtown, employees (including your families) and residents are encouraged to take these classes. Training sessions will be held once a month at the YWCA, 1017 N. 6th Street, KCK.  Lunch is provided for all classes. Please register by the Thursday before each class by contacting the American Red Cross at 913/321-6314.  Certification provided upon completion of the CPR training and is valid for one year.

Renovated Historic Lowell School

CABA is hosting their next breakfast meeting at the newly renovated Historic Lowell School.  (This was rescheduled from their June breakfast.)  Senator Chris Steineger will be the host and tour guide!

This 100-year-old elementary school building has been resurrected by skilled engineers, architects and craftsman into very spacious senior apartments with all the extras!  With this breakfast, Senator Steineger intends to re-introduce the community to this 26 unit building with all the amenities that seniors deserve:  secure/indoor parking, elevator, controlled access and much more! 

Don't miss the re-opening of this historic landmark!

ArtistArt Classes For Everyone
Red Door Studios is announcing their schedule of classes and week-long intensives this summer for kids 8-12 and teens.  Classes are limited to 6-8 students per class, so sign up early if you can!

All classes take place at Red Door Studios, 738 Armstrong in KCK.

Weekly Classes:

Drawing Session 2 - Ages 8-12
Mondays, 10am - 12pm 7/12, 7/19, 7/26, 8/2 (4 Weeks)
$120/student includes all materials
Students will move from line drawing to shading and value. A strong focus will be on getting correct proportions before moving onto shading, and light logic will be taught as students move into charcoal drawing on toned papers.

Special Intensives for Teens:

People/Faces Intensive - Teens
Monday through Friday 1-3pm 7/12 - 7/16
$150/student includes all materials
Proportions of the head and face will be covered as we also dive in to the characteristics of the
individual features themselves. Understand the underlying structure of the face and features, and
learn how to draw and shade them in a realistic way. We will work from photos, historical drawings, and life.

Registration deadline: 7/2/2010

Drawing from Life Intensive - Teens
Monday through Friday 1-3pm 7/26 - 7/30
$150/student includes all materials
If you can learn how to draw what you are looking at, you can draw anything! This class will focus on how to accurately portray anything that lay before you, from a still life to a landscape to a building to a person.

  Donnelly College offers certificates, associate's and bachelor's degrees in business-related areas.  Whether interested in getting a certificate to grow your company or thinking about going to college for a degree, this program will provide a background on Donnelly College's business-related academic offerings with a guest speaker from the school.
