Greetings!
I read the following quote this morning in "Sound Bites", a daily devotional sent out by Rev. Dave Wilkinson. (Dave is a dear friend of New Hope and his wife, Donna, leads our Wednesday morning Taste and See Bible Study.) In modern language, hope has become little more than a strong wish or a way of stating our preference. Hope, however, is a holy word, a powerful and exciting word. The word hope really means "faithful expectation." We hope, that is we faithfully expect that God is acting on our behalf to create, to save, and to sustain us. We claim an expectation for the future, even when the present does not provide proof that the future will be good; and we do so faithfully, within the relationship we claim with God in Jesus Christ. When we as faithful people say "hope," we should use the word with our feet firmly planted, our head held high, and our life relying on the God who will not let us go. We need to say "hope" as a prayer, as an affirmation of faith, and as a doxology to the living God. -- Randy Cross in Born to Save: An Advent Study Based on the Revised Common Lectionary I like that quote. I'm planting my feet firmly, holding my head high, relying on a God who will not let me go, and faithfully expecting....hoping... that God is acting on my behalf to create, to save, and to sustain me.
Hope IS a powerful and holy word.
I'm off to Texas for the weekend to visit the Markowicz family, so I'll see you next week, but Dick Frohling will save you a seat!
Go forth with new hope, Patti

Taste & See Women's Group to Study Angels
| |
New study on Angels begins January 5th Wed. mornings 9:30-11:00.
What - or who - are angels? Where did they come from, and what is their purpose? What is their relationship to us as human beings? These studies explore the numerous Bible passages that reveal the services these heavenly beings perform, the part they play in spiritual warfare, and how they differ from other beings in God's created order. Includes penetrating questions that generate discussion and an emphasis on daily application of Bible truth.
All women are welcome!
