Greetings!

As I watch the crops harvested from the fields, experience shorter daylight hours, and anticipate frost on our pumpkins, I find it a great time to stop and reflect on things that I am thankful for.  A loving and caring family and friends, a warm, dry home, abundant food, a healthy body, and the joy that comes from a personal relationship with a loving God.

As I've gotten older (yes, you heard me admit that I've gotten older!)  I have come to appreciate the time to step back and reflect in a way that I never did as a young mother.  It makes me wonder what I missed seeing all those years as I rushed through each day; I like to think I saw the important things and I have a feeling that God put the really important stuff right in front of me.  I have a feeling it was in the form of "What's for dinner, mom?", or "Mom, I have a band concert tonight and forgot to tell you that I need black dress pants."  or perhaps it was, "Hi Honey, your brothers will be here Saturday and your dad and I want to know if you can come for supper?"

Having a church family to share the joys and heartbreaks that come with life is also something I am very thankful for.  The up-lifting music and feeling of warmth during worship, Pastor Greg's messages that always speak to me, the love and caring from everyone - both those who know me well and those who only know me casually, are all things I am very appreciative of.

Ah yes, there is so much to be thankful for.  It's nice to stop occasionally and pay attention.

See you Sunday, I'll save you a seat!

Best Buy $300 (rebate to New Hope is 3%)
Kohl's $250 (rebate to New Hope is 5%)

Click here for info to sign up and order online.

Note:  Statements will be provided in January letting you know how much of your SCRIP purchases can be claimed as tax deductible.  You will of course want to consult with your tax accountant.
Calling all 'Martha Stewarts'... The Delicious Delectables Candy & Cookie Walk Needs Bakers
Sign up NOW to donate goodies

Pull out your apron and tie it on!  We are in need of baked goods, candy and fudge for our Delicious Delectable Candy & Cookie Walk.  We are asking for donations of pretty, decorative, festive little homemade goodies.  You know... the ones that Grandma always made.  Sign up at church or by clicking here.  Be sure to let us know how many dozen you plan to bring...one, two, or thirteen.
Holiday CookiesIf you're thinking the 'everyday chocolate chippers' don't quite make the holiday ratings, but you don't have a favorite "fancy" cookie recipe, just let us know and we'll get you some recipes.  Lonna Calder and Christy Aniol have oodles of great 'fancy cookie' recipes and they are willing to share them with you.

This yummy occasion is scheduled for December 12th from 10 to noon and will provide an excellent opportunity for you take home a variety of Christmas cookies for your holiday enjoyment.  Mark your calendars and plan on including these goodies when entertaining!

In fact, this is going to be such a great event, you'll want to invite your friends. (And please do!)  In fact, if you bring a friend who is a first time visitor to New Hope, you will get your first pound of cookies at only half price!

The Cookie Walk is Sunday, Dec. 12th from 10 - Noon
Sharing Food at Thanksgiving
Bring a canned food item to church with you on November 21st

As we reflect on all that we are thankful for, we urge you to bring a canned food item to worship with you Sunday, November 21st to share with someone less fortunate.  The Scout food drive was not as plentiful as the local pantries had hoped and they are in need of items to distribute.
In addition to food there is also great need for non-food items such as laundry detergent, shampoos, and toilet paper. So when you grocery shop, buy one for you and one to share!

We also need someone to take the collected items to De Pere Christian Outreach Food Pantry on Monday the 22nd.  If you can do this for us, please contact the church office.

Divorce Care:  Surviving The Holidays
 2 Hour Special Session - Wednesday, Dec. 15th  at 7:00 p.m.

DivorceCare: Surviving the Holidays is a warm, encouraging and helpful event. Led by Kim Welk, the session will feature video instruction and group discussion, as it helps you deal with the intense pain of separation and divorce during the holiday season.

Local churches around the world sponsor these seminars and New Hope will be hosting one on Wednesday, December 15th from 7 - 9 p.m.  Here's what you'll do during a Surviving the Holidays event:

  • Watch a 40-minute video, filled with practical tips on how to survive the holidays
  • Hear from others in your group who are dealing with a marital breakup this holiday season
  • Have the opportunity to share how the separation or divorce is affecting you (if you'd like)
  • Receive a personal Holiday Survival Guide
Please feel free to share this info to anyone you know who might benefit from this helpful session.  All are welcome.
Scrip Program Needs Volunteers
Volunteer every week or occasionally

We are looking for volunteers to help either on a weekly or occasional basis for our Scrip program to raise funds for the ministries and programs here at New Hope Church.  Sheryl Mielke has volunteered to take leadership on this project and she'll need help!  We'll need people to collect and distribute the orders on Sundays from 10 - 10:30 a.m.  We will also need help early in the week to tally the orders and later in the week to fill them.  Please contact Patti if you are willing to help.

Scrip is "no-selling" fundraising that allows New Hope to raise money based on your everyday purchases.  Scrip is a term that means "substitute money" and when you purchase scrip through New Hope, you're purchasing negotiable gift certificates and prepaid cards that are used just like cash. You can use scrip to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, gas and other essentials, and with every purchase, you earn revenue for our church.

The church buys the scrip at a discount, and re-sells the certificates to families like yours for full face value.  The discount - from two to fifteen percent or more -  is our organization's revenue which we will use to support programs and ministry right here at New Hope. This is a GREAT way for you to support our church!
