Dream Paint Flourish!

Greetings!
I apologize for not giving you enough notice to attend my demonstration in Williamsburg. I didn't find out about it myself until it was too late. Next time I will plan further ahead and allow plenty of time for everyone to come! I have been working on my Conservation Series these past few weeks; visiting one protected landscape each week and painting a number of different interpretations of each. These works are influencing one another in some unexpected ways. The article this week talks about one ah-haa moment I had yesterday. New paintings are at Wedmore Place in Williamsburg and The White Dog Inn in Mathews County are open! Go have dinner, enjoy the paintings! I will be happy to speak to your group, small or large. I am booking for fall now, call me at the studio 804-725-1183 or on my cell 804-366-0990.
Enjoy!

| INTERPRETING PAINTINGS
Dreams & Paintings Similar Symbols
5 Steps to Deciphering Them Step 1 Notice recurring thoughts, dreams or images. These are recurring for a reason. There is inspiration behind them, intended to bring out the best in you. Stopping and noticing them is the first step. This awareness is easy to promote, just a moment to stop and say "wow, I saw that!" to the Muse will do.
There are several images which continue to present themselves to me. This one first appeared in 1979 in the form of a pastel painting. Like dreams which recur again and again, recurring paintings also have special messages.
And you don't have to be the one who painted them to benefit from them! If you are attracted to a particular painting, there is something of value there for you. For example, | |

How You Can Help Hearts for Anna
One of the artists with whom I work at Artful Home, Anna Millea, is
fighting breast cancer - again. The disease has returned aggressively
and is now in her bones, requiring an extreme sixteen rounds of
chemotherapy. She has no insurance, having been deemed uninsurable due
to her "pre-existing condition."
I am joining with The Guild/Artful Home to do something to try
to help her through this situation. What we have come up with is an
event we are calling "Hearts for Anna", a 5-day online event, August 12-16, 2009 in which miniature artworks, no larger than 5" x 7",
will be sold. You can contribute artwork. You can purchase the work which is donated. I will be donating a little painting. I invite you to join with me in sending your hearts to Anna! LEARN MORE> |

NEW AT THE WHITE DOG October Sky I began this painting en plein air October 20 at the Oakleigh estate. This view faces west looking back along the fence line which separates it from the Hesse estate, which was once included Oakleigh.
When the lighting on site changed, I took my canvas back to the studio and finished. You will see in the glazes, much more detail than could be painted on site. The canvas, however, maintains the light qualities of a plein air work.
October Sky is the newest addition to my ongoing exhibit, Right in My Own Back Yard, currently on view at The White Dog Inn in Mathews. The paintings are inspired by a whole year of plein air painting in Mathews County. The Collection includes
views of Bethel Beach, Chapel Creek, Haven Beach, Misty Cove, New
Point, Put In Creek and more.Preview the show.

The White Dog is now open for lunch and dinner. The menu spans from meatloaf to crab norfolk, so there's something for everyone's taste and pocketbook. They have a wonderfully festive deck with spunky blue umbrella tables. I hope to see you there!
The White Dog Inn is open Tuesday through Saturday Lunch 11:30 - 3:00 Dinner 5:00 - 9:00 The Coffee Bistro 7 to 11 Reservations are accepted. 68 Church Street, Mathews, Virginia 804-725-7680

THE CONSERVATION COLLECTION Question: Working in a Straight Line or on a Tangent? The Choice is a matter of Preference~
One Dimension or Three? A straight line is one dimensional. Everyone knows that the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. We are wired up to look for the quickest, most efficient way of doing anything. But is it really giving you all that is really there for you?
What if going on the tangent would always get you somewhere you haven't
even imagined? What if it made being at the other end of the straight line obsolete?
The
best way of identifying one of those wonderful tangents is to pay attention to what
is going on in the present moment.
Many people are surprised when they learn that I
work on many different paintings, in several different styles
simultaneously. I do this intentionally. Working
on the one which is most attractive to me in the moment makes helps me stay in the present moment.
That is not to
say there are not things which I don't really like doing! Those nagging
things which we put off serve a purpose too. They are like red flags showing us things we have missed!
This past week
I did several things which I had been ignoring for quite a while. I took
care of some bookkeeping tasks, did some cleaning and did some pen and
ink drawings. Jim had been after me to do more pen and ink drawings like ones I did years
ago. I finally gave in and listened to him!
Then
yesterday as I was completing this little oil painting, I was very
startled to see benefits from my revived pen and ink drawing ~ showing up
on the canvas!
Pictured above: On the Bridge, 12" x 9", oil/canvas, Ford's Colony, $525. Pictured right: A Bottle of Red, 14" x 11", pen and ink, The Williamsburg Winery, $650.
Both of these works are part of my Conservation Series (Kindred
Gardens). Both landscapes are stewarded
with a vision of integrating man and earth in a way which cares for
both.

NEW AT WEDMORE PLACE
Home Port
I painted this on Solomons Island on May 16. Looking at this painting now, I feel attracted to the sail boat than the houses which attracted me to paint it in the first place. I find myself wondering when we are going to rig up those sails and go sailing! Funny how so much can change so quickly, my story about it two months ago was all about the shed and the house! Home Port is part of Allie's Gift, currently on display at Wedmore Place in Williamsburg, Virginia. The exhibit will continue through July 31. The Gallery is located at the entrance to Cafe Provincal. Enjoy lunch, see the paintings and don't forget the wine! Daily Tours and Wine Tastings, wine shop & more...
Pictured above: Home Port, oil, $1575.
Wedmore Place is located at The Williamsburg Winery, 5800 Wessex Hundred, not far from the Williamsburg Regional Airport. Get Directions
