Family Fun Day
Sunday, June 5, 2011
Crocker/North Fields

Greetings!

Welcome to our Second Alumni newsletter.  We have been busy over the summer gathering more and more alumni to add to our ever-growing database.  If you just graduated from Crocker, welcome to our quarterly newsletter.  We'll be sending you information on upcoming Hillsborough events, alumni profiles and other fun tidbits to keep you connected to your Hillsborough experience.  Please feel free to share this newsletter with fellow alums.  We welcome everyone to our new Crocker Alumni Association.  If you'd like to submit an update on what you've been up to, please send us your information to alumni@hsf.org.  In addition, if you would like us to update your email (right now we have the last email you had when you graduated from Crocker), please feel free to send us your new email.  We won't be sharing your email with any other folks.  There have been a number of alums who have held reunion events since they've graduated.  Send us pictures from your reunions and a short paragraph about the event and we'll feature the event in future newsletters.  Just send it to alumni@hsf.org.  Remember, we also have a Facebook page.  Find your fellow alumni through our web page and stay connected!

We'd also like to encourage all alumni to become Class Ambassadors.  It's an easy volunteer job that won't require a lot of work but it will be a lot of fun.  We're looking for alums who will help us connect with their classmates.  We want to reach out to our fellow alums to encourage class reunions, family gatherings, bbq's and other fun activities.  We would love to see fellow alums participating in our Hillsborough community events.  If you'd like to be a Class Ambassador or want more information on our program, please send us an email at alumni@hsf.org.  Remember, we can help you find people in your graduating class since our database continues to grow each day!

A special thanks and congratulations to Rob Fisher and Ted Dobos who co-chaired this year's new Hillsborough Concours d'Elegance which was held on September 12.  The event, held for the first time at the Crystal Springs Golf Course, was a huge success and a number of new and exciting programs were added to the classic car show.  Proceeds from this year's Concours will be donated to the Hillsborough Schools Foundation, Autism Speaks and the 49ers Foundation.  Congratulations again and we hope many of you can attend (and maybe even volunteer) for next year's Concours d'Elegance!

An Interview with Sean Burns, Class of  1980

Rabbi Mark Bloom, Sean Burns and Bretter Williams attend the Class of 1980 Reunion
"After recently enjoying our Crocker Class of 1980 30th Reunion, I am reminded of why I make an effort to stay in touch with people I went to school with so long ago. Reconnecting with people I share common experiences
and fond memories can be a pleasure. Classmates John Gates, Steve Molinelli and I meet for lunch at Ming's in Palo Alto whenever one of us has a
birthday (though John is still much older than we are...). Professor Ron
Frankel, the favorite teacher of my two Crocker 8th Grade nephews, recently invited three of his former Crocker basketball teammates (in 1977), Tom Kilty, Dominic Baldini and me, to enjoy his 1st row seats at a Warriors game. We had a great time reminiscing and catching up on current news. My family still enjoys gathering with the Moore and Conn Families for holiday meals; sometimes we have nine Crocker grads (from the '70s & '80s) at those events. Next year there will be twelve as three members of the new generation will graduate (we hope!).

In addition to really enjoying the company of people I share so many common experiences and memories, there are practical benefits as well. On recent work trips I had lunch with former classmate, Mike Wilmot, in Denver, and enjoyed dinner with Betsy Moore Monroe, a more mature Crocker Class of 1979 alumna, in New York. In 2011 I plan to visit the United Arab Emirates for the first time, having received a personal and official invitation from the Counsel General of Dubai. The esteemed diplomat used to be our next door neighbor on La Cuesta and attended Children's House, South and Crocker with Betsy and me. That trip will be a unique opportunity only possible because of a strong bond we maintain long after our Crocker days.

Professionally, several professional opportunities have emanated from
Crocker connections. Among those is another chance to deliver a leadership workshop to the members of the Hillsborough Schools Foundation later this month.

My life is certainly far richer, having fostered strong links to Crocker
Alumni."

Our thanks to Sean Burns for having the distinction of being our FIRST alumni profile!  We'd love to profile at least one or two alumni in each newsletter.  Please contact us at alumni@hsf.org and let us know what you're up too!  Send us photos, tell us about your Crocker connections or just drop us a note to say hello! A special thanks to Sean for taking the lead and helping us out!  Stay connected...it's a great thing!!!
