Important Dates for April

1- April Fool's Day. Were you the butt of a joke or the butt that pulled the joke?

3- Find a Rainbow Day. I found one!

7- No Housework Day. Yeah right, we DO own pugs after all.

18- Passover begins.

Pet Owner's Day- I can guarantee some of you will wake up to find a gift from your furry friend. Unfortunately it will probably be a puddle on the floor.

22- Earth Day.

Girl Scout Leader Appreciation Day. How about giving her a box of Girl Scout cookies?

24- Easter. Remember, it is about more than colored eggs and chocolate bunnies.

30- National Honesty Day. I'm not kidding!

Providing loving care to Homeward Bound pugs since 2006

Dear Friends,

Wow, I had so many plans for this newsletter. And then life happened. That will teach me to plan ahead! Those things can wait because we want to give you an update on Meka.

Most of you know the story of Meka the poor, neglected pug.

We sent out an urgent plea for your support and support us you did! Thanks to you we have almost reached our fundraising goal. There are no words to express the gratitude we feel. Now Meka is resting comfortably at her foster mother's home and getting the medical treatment she was previously denied. Unfortunately, Meka will not be ready for adoption for 6-9 months. Gail states, "Meka has eye and ear infections and of course skin infections and dry eye. She is on ear meds, eye meds and cyclosporine, plus ivermectin, two antibiotics and medicated shampoo. She is a mess but I think she already feels better."

Gail would like to thank Adam Paluka of Fox 23, who was kind enough to share  Meka's story (at 2:20 into the video) and all of our wonderful HWB friends who sent their love, well wishes and support. We couldn't do it without you!

Sincerely,

Liz Lummus

Pugs of the Month

Snickers and Chuckie

Snickers and Chuckie are a bonded pair who had to be surrendered by their mommy when she went into a nursing home. Snickers is eight years old and Chuckie is four. Don't let Snicker's age fool you, she loves to play and is a joy to watch. They use a dog door, love cats and play all day with a kitten. They are looking for family to love and spend the rest of their life with. Snickers and Chuckie are just as sweet as can be, house trained and ready and eager to start their new life. It is difficult to find a home for a pair and even more difficult when one or both are older. We desperately want these two sweet pugs to find a forever family and will lower the adoption fee if we find the right family. If you have been thinking about bringing two pugs into your home, please consider this sweet pair. For more information please contact Gail Tucker or fill out an application.

Meet and Greets

April
Friday, April 29th 2pm-8pm
Saturday, April 30th 10am-4pm
Centennial Building- State Fair Park OKC
May

This event benefits over 20 rescues. Drop by and say hi to Gail and the pugs. Sadly, Gail didn't volunteer for the dunk tank but there will also be dog wash stations, groomers, Big Truck Tacos, local artists and bands, raffles, the Ice Cream Lady and kid friendly activities. I'm not sure if the Ice Cream Lady is a sideshow freak or if she just sells ice cream. Guess you will just have to come see for yourself!

Eli

Most of you remember our sweet Eli who was born with luxating patellas. Well, because of your generous donations we were able to begin his surgeries. The first surgery took place March 4th and Gail is happy to announce it was a success! Dr. Skip Tanger of Veterinary Surgical Center is confident that Eli will recover nicely. As you can tell by the photo the incision has healed beautifully and once his fur grows back you will never be able to tell he had surgery. Eli will be on crate rest for 8 weeks and then taken back to have surgery on his other leg. It will be a long road to recovery but well worth it to see sweet Eli running and playing pain free.

Happy Tails

Gladys and Emma

Gladys was adopted by the Ludwig's after considering whether the time was right and if Gladys was the right pug for their family. We believe the photo says it all! It is not easy for some of our pugs to be moved from foster home to foster home, but in some cases it is necessary. When they do finally go to their forever home some pugs are hesitant to connect and trust. In Gladys' case it took several days to absorb it all before she began to join the Ludwig's as part of their family. It is like watching a flower bloom as more and more of Gladys' personality shines through. Stories like Gladys and the Lugwig's is what makes rescue worth while!~ Mary, HWB Wisconson

Almost Home Pug Run #3

Here is more information on the upcoming Pug Run as well as footage and photos from the previous run. We will post more about this exciting day in the May and June issues.
