The Numbers

Numbers are an important aspect of any program. The number of campers helps us measure the reach of our ministry. Actual numbers are a real and an honest tool to see what we have achieved and what opportunities we have in the challenges going forward. Overall 2012 season camper registration exceeds 2011 by more than 10% !!!

Week 1: (July 3-6) -  10 total campers

Week 2: (July 8-13) - 20 total campers

Enjoy Your Annual Church Picnic at Camp
church picnic
Would you like to put a new spin on an old idea?  Does your church have a church picnic during the summer?  Why not have it at Covenant Hills this year?  Enjoy the afternoon at the pond, a campfire, canoeing, swimming, hiking and the breath-taking view of the mountains with your friends and family.

Call Todd at camp if your interested in having such an event at the camp.  After you have done this once at camp, you will probably want to come back again and again.  Call him at 802-346-3340.

disc golf 1

Covenant Hills now features a four hole disc golf course! There are plans to expand to a nine hole course, and eventually to an 18 hole course.  Disc golf, for those who have never heard of it, is a rapidly growing sport in the U.S., quite popular with youth.  It is played like golf, but instead of balls, discs are used.  Discs are like a Frisbee but are smaller, heavier and easier to turn.  The "holes" are upright baskets designed to catch the discs if accurately thrown.  Unlike golf, disc golf is best played in the woods.  Covenant Hills is an ideal location for a course: The area up by the lean-tos with tall trees and minimal underbrush, the challenge to get the disc to the basket, and the lack of underbrush makes finding the disc easy.

Funding from the Deering Fund, a UCC Foundation, was used to purchase six baskets.  Four holes are in place by the lean-tos, and two practice baskets are out in the grassy area in front of Faith Lodge.  Disc golf is now another fun activity that kids can enjoy while at camp.

Local Church Idea.......

Having trouble fitting all the pieces of your church together?  Need to spend some quality time away from the cell phone and the texting and the never-slow-down pace of life?  Bring your group to Covenant Hills for a day.  For and evening.  For an overnight.  Plan a retreat and be able to talk without the interruptions of everyday life.  Enjoy the serenity of the camp.  Close your day with a campfire and make S'mores.

Construction?  Design Help Needed!

The Executive Committee of Covenant Hills is making plans to replace and expand the porch on the west side of Faith Lodge.  This is the area where campers wait at meals times and where people sit and take in the activities on the field below.  It is a natural "hang-out" location. The vision is to expand this area, to include more room for perhaps some picnic tables and/or Adirondack chairs, and perhaps even some shade to make it comfortable on hot days.  If this plan sounds enticing, but lacking detail, we agree.  The committee is hoping someone in the Covenant Hills community might have the skills to draw up some plans for such a project.  Contact Dave MacGowan at [email protected] or 802-244-1584 if you have some ideas and/or design skills for this project.  Thanks!

discovery 1

We hear the Parable of the Sower as we worship together for the first time at camp.  In the Parable, Jesus tells us that some people are like seed sown along the path and as soon as they hear the word God, it never takes toot and goes away from them. Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word, and even though they rejoice, fall from it too because they too have no root in the word.  Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; but the worries of this life, come in and take it away, making it unfruitful.  Yet others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop ~ "some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times what was sown" because their roots are firm in the soil of God.    May the Word of God be heard through the experiences we have at Covenant Hills this summer and be carried home with joy and excitement and be shared with everyone we meet.
