CCNA Training at HECO
|
Partnerships
PCATT and Hawaiian Electric Company, Inc. (HECO) are working together to share expertise through a Department of Energy grant. PCATT is currently providing CCNA training on-site at HECO to meet their growing IT/Communication needs in preparation for the roll-out of a "smart grid" on Oahu. This specialized training will provide HECO's essential workers with comprehensive networking skills to better adapt them to the changing power environment that the "smart grid" will bring. HECO in turn has been advising PCATT on the development of curriculum for a "smart grid" training program.
Recently released hybrid curriculum for Cisco Academy training provides participants with accelerated training covering CCNA 1 through 4 in approximately 12 weeks. Because of its pace, this training is suitable for people with solid networking skills. Watch for this course in an upcoming PCATT schedule.
PCATT welcomes mutually beneficial partnership arrangements like this one with HECO.

Hydrogen Fueled Vehicle

Military Hydrogen Fuel Plant Serves As a Pilot Program For Sustainability
Not many civilians are aware of the research and development efforts happening at our local military bases. On a recent trip to Joint Base Pearl Harbor/Hickam (JBPHH), PCATT staff was privileged to see a fully functional hydrogen fuel production plant. The U.S. military is working with government contractors to develop a viable option to produce a scalable, renewable, and deployable hydrogen processing plant to fuel its vehicles both domestically and abroad.
In addition to plant energy production, a large solar PV array and 5 wind turbine generators are used to power the equipment turning simple water into usable hydrogen. This means the entire process can use renewable, non-fossil fuel energy to drive production. Best of all, when the production plant is not in use, energy is fed back to reduce energy costs.
It's exciting to know this renewable resource is within reach. As the technology develops, you can be sure PCATT will be at the forefront to meet your training needs.

Product ReviewThe recent launch of Google Drive has resulted in many comparisons with similar cloud-based apps. This one is the best in terms of sheer numbers. You've probably heard of Dropbox and iCloud but how about Wuala, SugarSync, Insync, Syncplicity, and 6 others? If this seems overwhelming, there's a handy chart near the end of the article and helpful "liner notes" at the very end. Read the article from The Verge by Ellis Hamburger here. |

Tech Updates
Imagine glass that's glare-free, self-cleaning, and water repellent. Although it may sound too good to be true, MIT researchers have developed a product they call "multifunctional" glass. The implications for touchscreen displays, phones, tablets, solar panels, and a multitude of products are tremendous when the manufacturing costs are reduced. If updates like this one as they relate to technology are of interest to you, then consider checking out PCATT's Facebook Page, follow PCATTTweet on Twitter and PCATT Hawaii on Tumblr. |
