Greetings!
Aloha,
For things to work right, it takes more than just technical support. Sometimes a little bit of cleaning is what we need. Did you know that at PCATT, we clean the chairs, keyboards, tabletops, and even the light switches every week? If you're in the mood, you may want to give your own gadgets a spring cleaning. Folks with special cleaning tips for electronic devices are encouraged to share them. Happy spring cleaning, or not.

Post-9/11 GI-Bill Pays for Training
Good news for eligible veterans: Effective October 1, 2011, post-9/11 veterans may qualify for non-college degree (NCD) programs such as those offered by PCATT. This funding source pays for "actual net costs for in-state tuition and fees or $17,500, whichever is less." There is an allocation for books and supplies. Flight programs and correspondence training are also included.
We have seen several active duty individuals and veterans benefit from PCATT training fully funded through the Post-9/11 GI Bill. Particular programs are VA approved such as Cisco, Oracle, Microsoft, Fiber Optics, Autodesk, and others. Contact PCATT @ 808 845-9296 or pcatt@hawaii.edu for information and assistance. More info here. |

CompTIA® IT Certification Roadmap
CompTIA® has a great roadmap to trace various certification paths. Of course it's CompTIA-centric
but what's nice is it incorporates Cisco, Certiport, Citrix, International Project Management, and the European Computer Driving License certifications to see where they fit. Click on the "View All Certifications" box on the bottom left of the chart and the actual certifications are displayed. Oracle, Microsoft, Red Hat, GIAC, and other certifications are displayed with links to the appropriate websites. Anyone looking at certifications will find this to be a handy visual tool.

"Learn the Cloud. Make a Difference."
Speaking of Microsoft, you can deploy the Windows Azure app and contribute to Stanford University's Folding@home computing project that will help scientists learn more about diseases such as Alzheimer's, ALS, Parkinson's, many cancers, and other diseases through protein folding simulations. You may also participate in free webcasts to learn about Azure, troubleshooting, and async patterns. Microsoft is offering a free 90-day Windows Azure trial. Learn more.

"Free Cloud Services Compared"

Perhaps you already have your favorite free cloud
service. Here's a handy comparison of various services and an introduction to ones you may not have heard of. This listing tells you what services are provided, the amount of space you get for free, and other details in a succinct format. Credit goes to Michelle Starr, of CNET.com.au (Yes, that's Australia).

Wayne Lewis, PCATT Cisco Academy Manager

CCNA Exploration: LAN Switching and Wireless, the Chinese Edition
A book from Cisco Press written by PCATT Cisco Academy Manager Wayne Lewis has been translated into Chinese. This link takes you to a Chinese site written in Chinese characters, of course. Although it takes a while to load, it's worthwhile should you want to read the book in Chinese. Better yet, the site offers a discount on the book! Congratulations to Wayne Lewis for spreading Cisco education to the world. For the very observant, you've noticed the book Wayne is holding does not match the site. Alas, the author has not yet received a copy of his book.
