Greetings!

Aloha,

Today is February 29. Is it a bonus or problem? If today is your birthday and you're not a child, it's a good thing because you're forever young. When it comes to taxes, there is a lot of confusion as reported by Forbes. Perhaps Leap Year means you work an extra day without extra pay, as this article from The Daily Telegraph from Australia complains. Read here for the scientific explanation from Robert Egler, senior lecturer in physics and director of instructional labs at North Carolina State. Whatever the case, PCATT wishes you a great Leap Year day and we hope you enjoy the Leap Year eZine.

If you're interested to know the skills that paid six figures, ABAP (Advanced Business Application Programming) leads the way at $109,157 for the year 2011. Surely you'd like to read more

hia Hawaii Innovation Alliance

In case you haven't heard of tech industry advocacy group the Hawaii Innovation Alliance (HIA), here's the website. The best way to participate and learn what's going on is through the Facebook group which you can access through the website. The group was started just a few weeks ago and has over 550 members, quite a statement for tech, innovation, and entrepreneurship in Hawaii. The point is to get involved, speak up, and do something.

Handy Apps Honolulu311

These apps both come from the City and County of Honolulu and are great examples of how useful technology can be in our daily lives. Honolulu 311 is a way to report problems such as illegal dumping and abandoned vehicles by taking a photo and sending it with GPS data. The app is free for both Android and iPhones

DaBus - The Oahu Bus App is another free app that helps you find bus routes and the nearest bus stop based on your current location. The best part is it tracks real-time bus arrival and actual bus locations. The app was developed at Honolulu's first civic "hackathon" held in January in conjunction with CityCamp Honolulu. DaBus App is only available for iPhones at the moment. With high gas prices, this app makes taking Da Bus a bit easier.

And finally, for those who look forward to the lighthearted item featured in the PCATT eZine. Have you seen the SNL spoof on the Verizon mobile phone salesperson? Now none of us has ever used a string of acronyms or thrown out tech terms that no one else gets...well at least not on purpose. For our friends at Verizon, you know this is in fun and all publicity is good marketing.
