I wanted to bring your attention to a national TV show that is going to feature Athens heavily in its next episode. Fox Sports Net's "Endurance Traveler," the first travel/sports show ever shown on the network, is wrapping up its first season this coming Thursday, Nov. 4 at 3:00 PM on FSN South. The episode, "Athens to Atlanta," takes a look at the grueling 89-mile inline skating race between the two cities and what it takes to compete in such a tough event.

But the show isn't just about the competitions, it's also about the culture. Interchanged with coverage of the race, host and star of the show Dean Warhaft checks out local hotspots and places of interest of each city. In Athens, Warhaft takes in some street music with "Brother Eudy," goes to the Terrapin Brewery for one of their famed weekly parties, eats Soul Food at Weaver D's and showcases the Hotel Indigo, one of only 10 gold certified LEED eco friendly hotels in the world.

There are two fun side notes to this episode:

1-  This race was originally supposed to be an 87-mile race, but due to construction along the route, it ended up forcing the competitors to skate 89 miles. But hey, at that distance, what's an extra two miles?  

2-  Three months before the race, Dean had never inline skated. He taught himself how and just weeks later skated nearly 90 miles. That's insane.
