DID YOU KNOW?
The world's most popular fruit is tomato. Yes, botanically speaking it is a fruit, not a vegetable. More than 60 million tons of tomatoes are produced per year. The second most popular fruit is the banana. Apples are the third most popular, and next are oranges and watermelons .

April 2010

Bozena ChorazewiczGreetings!

Spring is officially here!
The days are getting longer and warmer, the grass is getting greener, the birds are starting to wake us up earlier in the morning...

Every year with the beginning of spring, I feel eager to start new projects, try out fresh ideas, and do something I have never done before.

This time, I've decided to give my writing skills a chance and finally finish the book I have intended to write for some time now (read about it in What's Up column).
While closely watching the newest styles showing up at various trade expos, I'm carefully comparing the trends, trying to assess which ones are going to pass quickly and what's here to stay. I already know that this spring my favorite is the contemporary classic. I've been seeing more and more of it for some time now, and it is easy to apply.

Let me know what your decorating choices are this spring. Email me - I'd love to hear your opinion!

Read on, be healthy, be happy,

DESIGN TRENDS 2010

trendsCONTEMPORARY CLASSIC AND NATURE-INSPIRED SIMPLICITY AMONG THE NEWEST DESIGN STYLES

The newest European home design trends for 2010/2011, as presented in Frankfurt this April, can be arranged in four style themes:

Gentle Ease is a name for a style characterized by subtle contrasts and an easy-going approach. Simple ideas for solving everyday needs, natural materials, clear-finished wood and nature-derived colors (browns, mustards, greys and blues) make the space feel soft and uncomplicated.

Classic designs meet contemporary aesthetics in Contemporary Classic trend. It combines quality and tradition with modern surfaces and materials. Perfect workmanship and understated luxury meets mood lighting, top-quality hardwoods, leather and metallic touches. Gold, bronze and nickel are paired with darker colors (navy and purple).

Creative Verve is a style for those who prefer experimentation and improvisation. The retro features are balanced by high-tech items (like imaginative lighting). Vintage style and folk art are re-interpreted into a  spontaneous and uncomplicated manner. Light colors and hand-made features are inherent to this style.

Futuristic design and progressive use of materials distinguish the Advanced Purism trend. Bright, iridescent colors and geometric shapes are incorporated in ultramodern designs that originate in biology and cosmos. Fluid shapes and surreal aesthetic appear poetic and sensitive.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN INTERIOR DESIGNER AND A DECORATOR?

At BOZENA STUDIO we don't like to be called "decorators" because it diminishes what is a much broader responsibility - the health, safety and welfare of the people who live and work in the environments we create. Design is more than making aesthetic choices. A professional interior designer has the experience and skills to create beautiful, well-functioning spaces comprised of furnishings and materials which fit your lifestyle.
Professional interior designers receive an extensive college-level education on a wide range of practice areas: space planning, materials, color theory, building & construction, textiles, art history, rendering, professional practice, and so on. Decorators often have a flair for design but may not have received professional training in this field.

BOZENA'S NEW BOOK SCHEDULED TO COME OUT NEXT YEAR

What is healthy interior design? I am being asked this question whenever I mention what I do. So, to clarify what it means, I've decided to write a book. Yes, a whole book just to make it easy to understand the phrase that shortly will become as popular as green design or eco-friendly living.
To help the reader understand how to make any space more healthier and living in it less stressful, I'm bringing together almost a hundred tips and tricks and putting in into a book under a working title "99 Ways to Make Your Home a Healthier, Happier Place".
The book is scheduled to be published early next year. I'll be updating you on the progress - make sure to stop by!

QUOTE OF THE MONTH:
After you have exhausted what there is in business, politics, conviviality, and so on - have found that none of these finally satisfy, or permanently wear - what remains? Nature remains.
