What some in the religious, legal and political communities are saying about the Anti-Homosexuality bill of Uganda
Other Sheep eNews Saturday, November 21, 2009
Dear Other Sheep Friend,

In the middle of the night - the wee hours of Thursday, October 15 - I couldn't sleep.  I silently slipped away from the bedroom so as not to disturb Jose, my wedded life partner.  Checking my inbox, I found an alarming email from a friend in Uganda.  Attached to the email was an article, dated October 14, from "The New Vision, Uganda's Leading Website."  My Ugandan friend had just sent it.  I immediately created an eNews and sent it out to over 2,500 email addresses.  The Other Sheep eNews headlines read "Homosexuals face death penalty in Uganda according to news article."

That Sunday in church I heard a religious leader in global social justice say to her audience from the pulpit that Other Sheep had broken the Ugandan bill news to the world.  If that is so, it is a first for Other Sheep as far as I know.  The rule of thumb is, Other Sheep is indebted to other activist organizations for world news while we provide local news related to Other Sheep coordinators and Other Sheep events and writings.

So, why do we feature articles like the ones you find in this eNews - most of which you've perhaps seen already?  For this reason:  Other Sheep, by publishing this eNews, is sending a message to the "other sheep" in East Africa, the many LGBT people of faith with whom Other Sheep worked in 2007 and 2008:  "We know, we care, we are watching and praying and as we are able we are supporting you."  The "we" is not just the staff of Other Sheep, but the many pastors and religious leaders and lay Christians from around the world who subscribe to this eNews.  There are many who care.  Together, we all care for Uganda and East Africa, especially at this time.

For all who suffer in this world because of injustices,

"I fear for Uganda, or any state, when the church, by how it acts, might as well be parliament, and parliament, by how it acts, might as well be the church."
