Travel from Chiang Mai, Thailand, to Singapore

Wednesday evening, July 29 - Saturday evening, August 1
 
Chiang Mai, Thailand, Train StationWe traveled by over-night train (sleeper car) from Chiang Mai to Bangkok with several hours lay over in Bangkok (we worked at a local Internet caf� on our lap tops); we traveled by over-night train (sleeper car) from Bangkok to Butterworth, Malaysia, and arrived late afternoon.  We ferried to Georgetown (Penang Island), Malaysia, and spent the night there (Georgetown is the main city; Butterworth is on the mainland); The following day, we took an all day train from Butterworth, Malaysia, to Singapore.
  • We used the time on the train (and the late evening in our hotel lobby) to down load and crop pictures, create web pages, log journals, write blogs, create and send an eNews (from Georgetown), and enter new contact info

We stayed in the home of a fellow American closeted gay Christian LGBT activist.
  1. We arrived late Saturday night, August 1, by train from Butterworth, Malaysia.
  2. Steve preached in the Sunday morning service of the Free Community Church, Listen to the audio recording of Rev. Steve Parelli's sermon, August 2, 2009, Free Community Church, Singaporea welcoming and affirming LGBT church.  About 100 in attendance.  Sunday morning, August 2.   3. We had a personal meeting with Carolyn Newall, Australian educator and theologian, member of Free Community Church in China Town.  Sunday, August 2.  (We left 5 books of The Children Are Free with Carolyn for use in Australia.)
  4. Jose contacted, by phone, 58 churches (11 Methodist, 17 Presbyterians, and a mixture of independent Bible churches). 
  5. We attended Free Community Church cell group and participated in the discussion around a book study.  Tuesday evening, August 4.
  6. We were asked, and gave, a Q&A meeting about Other Sheep and related topics at a second cell group meeting of the Free Community Church.  Prior to the meeting we ate with Rev. and Mrs. Yap Kim Hao and Susan Tang.Wednesday evening, August 5.
  7. We met with an evangelical Presbyterian pastor of a large church (with a day school of 400 students) and discussed the topic of being gay and Christian.  We left papers and the book The Children Are Free.   8. We were interviewed by a journalist from Fridae.com on the "ex-gay" movement.  The article was published on the Internet.  Thursday, August 6.
  9. We presented a PowerPoint presentation to a closeted gay Christian cell group in the home of our host; we gave attendees a copy of the book The Children Are Free.  Thursday, August 6.

We traveled by bus from Singapore to Seramban, Malaysia; then by car  from Seramban to Port Dickson, Malaysia (a party from the MCC retreat picked us up).

We traveled by car (a party from the MCC retreat drove us) from Port Dickson to Seramban, Malaysia; then by bus from Seramban to Singapore.

We returned to the same home of a fellow American closeted gay Christian LGBT activist.
 
  1. We arrived at Singapore by bus from Seramban, Malaysia. Late Sunday evening, August 9. 
  2. We worked on Other Sheep lap-top/ office work/ in the home of our host. Monday and Tuesday, August 10-11.

  4. We mailed three copies of the book The Children Are Free to three pastors who had requested the material during Jose's phone calling of 58 churches.  Wednesday, August 12.
  5. We met with a closeted Vietnamese gay male professional educator living in Singapore to further his education, Wednesday, August 12.
