Hi everyone!
I don't usually send forwards or mass emails, but this time it is too vitally important for me not to say anything.
Because of the fact that same-sex couples are not recognized in federal immigration law (or any other kind of federal law), I am forced to choose between living in my native country, OR living with the person I consider to be my spouse and part of my family.
Besides feeling that this is a discriminatory and unjust legal situation, it's simply a practically difficult way to live! I'm far from my family. I'm denied the opportunities I used to have before me--such as further schooling, open and welcoming churches, and familiar sights and foods and culture and language! And of course, the ultimate indignity is that my partner can't even come to meet my family!
Even if you're not a protesting, marching type, could you please take two minutes (at most) and sign this petition? It's just a quick task for you, but represents life-changing hope for me.
If you're at all confused about what I'm talking about, ask me. This means more to me than you can probably understand.
Thanks for reading this. It's one of the most important things in my entire life.
Love,
Kati Griess
