March 2009 Creating a Great Session

Silver and Gold... Silver and Gold... and cash
Not as catchy a tune, but hey - next month I will be hosting a Silver and Gold party. What's that? Well, first it is a party, a time to visit and enjoy yourself. Second, bring your unwanted GOLD jewelry and you'll walk away with CASH! Someone I trust implicitly will be here to test, weigh and buy your gold, your broken, mismatched bling for cash. Third, if you would like to get yourself something new, we'll have a nice selection of Silpada Jewelry to play with.Call or email if you want to know more!

Greetings!,
I recently spoke to a group of business colleagues in Annapolis and spent some time sharing how one can really extend the value and effects of a bodywork session.
My focus is to create a great session every time. That is why Dr. Upledger's quote above spoke to me. I do trust the universe and accept what information comes in for me, and then I drop any agenda and follow what my client's body is asking for.
Often, this can look like a great deal of gentle attention to a certain area or a deeply relaxing full body session that is as good for the soul as it is for the body. And, delightfully, it often changes from one session to the next. There are also some things that you can do to maximize the outcome of your sessions, do read on to discover more, and let me know how they work for you.
As the spring arrives, snow cover notwithstanding, there are some workshops, events and activities coming up. Healing From the Core is the work that I teach, embody and love deeply, and would like to share with you this spring. I hope you can join me!
For this issue, I couldn't resist sharing some photos from Monday's snow storm. I hope you enjoy March and the arrival of spring. Thank you for your continued interest and curiosity.
Many blessings,

Amelia Mitchell, LMT

Getting the Most From Your Bodywork Session

Amelia's tips for maximizing the outcome of your session
Plan a P E A C E F U L day after your session.
Let the rest of the day be gentle. Eat lightly before and after, allow your body
to rest or move easily. No big meetings,
no heavy workouts, take a nap and get to bed early.
C O M M U N I C A T E your goals and feedback.
I can give you a much better session if I know what you need
and what you prefer. During the session,
feedback about pressure, temperature, etc. will help me modify the treatment to
best meet your needs.
Drink a lot of W A T E R before and after your session.
To help your body
detoxify, drink more than the recommended amount of water. Recommended amount is half of
your body weight in ounces of water per day. Weigh 140 pounds? Drink 70 ounces.
Bring your calendar so you can S C H E D U
L E again. Let
your body know it will receive more. Discuss timing with your
therapist - acute or
chronic issues need more frequent sessions.
Good maintenance can range from 3 -8 weeks between sessions. Could you
promise your body that you will give it the gift of a massage every two
months?
Relax your mind and allow S T
I L L N E S S to
enter.
Allow your voice and the mind to rest. Focus on your breathing and the
sensations of
the session. If you are finding that your mind is going a mile a
minute, bring your awareness back to the sensations of the session, the
warmth of the table, the pressure or touch of the bodywork. Focusing on what is happening in the moment allows the mind to quiet.

As seen in The Capital New Year's Weekend
|
|
Just before Christmas The Capital called, wanting to do an article on massage. Of course I said yes and invited the reporter, photographer and videographer over the next week. What fun to do this interview and big thanks go out to my client and all around good sport Jackie Gallagher!
If you would like to get more of a feel of a session, and learn more about how I work, a short video is online at the HometownAnnapolis.com. Click here to watch it.
One question kept coming up. Was massage a luxury item? My client Jackie's response was: "This is the best. I can't think of anything else that compares to it. I wouldn't give it up for the world."
My response is that good bodywork, massage and such, is a choice we can make for health and well-being. The benefits extend far beyond the session and touch all of our lives. I became a massage therapist after this work so deeply touched and changed my life. I see this in clients all the time. The power of touch and connection. Being met where they are. A gentle approach to deep and powerful change, this is what can be found in the massage therapy room. This is what I invite you in to experience.

"...When I am in a meeting with colleagues and the tension is
building, I don't get hooked by it anymore. I can recognize it more quickly,
then use the grounding skills to create a steady atmosphere in the room that
actually diffuses the tension and allows people to think more clearly through
the issues at hand."
"...this
work integrates heart presence, grounding energy, all our mental faculties and
the ability to have an effective voice. What a winning combination!"

Tendon Ruptures and Tears may be related to Antibiotic Use

|
There are a number of articles showing up talking about possible dangers from antibiotics such as Cipro and Levaquin. Much of my work has been with people recovering from joint issues and injuries. So this information is interesting and concerning. If you are curious to know more, follow these links. San Diego Union-Tribune Pharmalot |
