SALTERS

Anticipating an early winter, DEL has stocked up on snow & ice equipment and is poised to help our customers get set up. There are 3 types of Salters we bring in for most Pickup truck applications, lets take a minute to understand these options.

Electric Salters

These salters are the most cost effective of the offerings. By tapping into the electrical system of the truck itself, one can avoid the cost of adding a hydraulic pump and PTO.  Typically in application, these would be used in more mild conditions by volume and are therefore usually smaller in capacity and size. (also helps in the lower cost)

Hydraulic Salters

These are the most popular kind of system used in the majority of packages involving a dumping body on the truck.  A central hydraulic system including some sort of pump and Power Take Off is added to the truck to operate both the dumping body and the salter/spreader. A bigger tank is usually added to account for the increased volume of hydraulic fluid needed for this.  By using the pump/PTO, more flow can be added, in turn giving you a more robust system that allows for greater capacities and volume.

Engine driven Salters

This is another popular option used by pickup truck owners or guys running trucks with a flat deck of sorts.  An external power source, a small gas powered engine is used to power the salter/spreader. With Swenson, the choices are either Briggs and Stratton or Honda.  This choice of equipment is also popular with the smaller trucks and can be used on vehicles with no PTO available.  The downside to these engine driven units, is the added noise they will have that can be irritating to some in a residential area. Sometimes in inclement weather, they can also be hard to start.

Hopefully, this helps those looking for options this winter.

Please let us know if there are any questions relating to this equipment, or anything else you might need to get the jump on the fall/winter season.

Hoists

Frequently we get asked about the difference between Under-body hoists and Front-mounted hoists. The basic difference is where the load is lifted and the answer to which one is right for the customer is based on application being used by the customer.

Under-Body Hoists

HOIST - UNDERBODY

        • Under-body hoists are better if the application calls for no recess in the front headboard to maximize floor space.Lumber and landscaper companies like using this application for skids.
        • Under-body hoists have more moving parts and require higher sub frames which leads to higher floor heights.

Benefits of Front-mounted hoists

HOIST - FRONT MOUNT

          • Less moving parts
          • Lower floor height
          • Mechanically efficient
          • Faster and easier to service
          • Requires less effort/thrust to lift than under-body hoists, drastically reducing the stress on the body and chassis

Lower force = less stress = longer life

DEL manufactures both these types of hoists to suit your application.

If you have any questions regarding which hoist is better suited to your needs give us a call.
