Longest Day of Trails

A huge thank you to everyone who participated in the fifth annual Longest Day of Trails on Friday, June 24th headquartered at Montana Ale Works!!!

The Longest Day of Trails is a dawn-to-dusk membership drive for Gallatin Valley Land Trust (GVLT) held at Montana Ale Works (MAW). This year from 5am until 10pm over 125 riders came out to enjoy leisurely paced rides (lead by cyclist on the GAS/ Intrinsik Architecture team) and were introduced to the Main Street to the Mountains trail system. Over 40 children and families came down for the kids loop!  Jawbone Railroad donated their time to play wonderful live music on the outside patio. Pascal Beauvais and Sonya Iverson donated their time to capture the day on film. We are SO grateful to all of our supporters!!!

Montana Ale Works donated over 150 $20 gift certificates!! To the staff at MAW - your dedication and support of GVLT is SO inspiring. Thank you for the good humor in the rain and staying up late to feed all those awesome cyclists and supporters.

Huge THANK YOUs to all the volunteers! To the GAS/Intrinsik Architecture team, thank you for your help in planning the day and leading all the loops - a special thanks to Jason Delmue and Bill Cochran! And to all the volunteers who worked the ground : Dan Jones, Adelle Donohue, Molly Pickall, Russell Griggs, Heidi Balus, Anna Geraert, Krista Burdick, Lessa Racow, Laurie Shammel, Michealanne Beighley, Shannon Willoughby, Sam Bloomquist, Teri Inscoe, Mary Anthony, and Cheryl Eiholzer! Wildflower Guide

Flora of Montana's Gallatin Region: Greater Yellowstone's Northwest Corner

Flora Book

Don't forget to pick up your copy of Whitney Tilt's, Flora of Montana's Gallatin Region, Greater Yellowstone's Northwest Corner, so you can begin identifying wildflowers that grace this landscape. This beautiful, easy to use, field guide can be purchased for $25 at the Gallatin Valley Land Trust office (25 North Willson Street, Suite E), Schnees Boots & Shoes, Vargo's, Powderhorn Outfitters, Sola Cafe, and the Country Book Shelf. Proceeds benefit the GVLT so when you purchase one, not only will you deepen your knowledge of the wildflowers, grasses, shrubs and trees of the Gallatin Region, you will also support GVLT. They make great gifts too!
LANDS

Russ Tuckerman and Madonna Yuill, a Wilson Creek Resident, yuck it up on a recent conservation easement monitoring visit. Madonna has been committed to identifying and eradicating noxious weeds on her land as well as on surrounding parcels. This particular conversation was focused on Hoary Alyssum (Berteroa incana), an escaped ornamental that is still, unknowingly, distributed by nurseries throughout the western US. Hoary Alyssum has spread throughout the western states and is particularly difficult to eradicate as well as being toxic to horses after it is dried in hay. Noxious weed infestations are very evident this year with our ample moisture and long cool spring; land stewards should focus on identifying and eradicating noxious weeds through a multi-method effort that includes, manual pulling, herbicide treatment, mowing, and grazing.
