CONSERVATION

Get Discounted Lift Tickets & Help Private Land Conservation in Montana

Travelers for Open Land and Big Sky Resort are excited to present Skiers and Riders for Open Land, a weekend event on April 9th and 10th, 2011 that will help support Montana land conservation. By presenting the Skiers and Riders for Open Land coupon guests will receive a $59 discounted lift ticket ($81 value), $5 of which will be donated to Travelers for Open Land, a non-profit committed to Montana private land conservation.

Travelers for Open Land is a statewide partnership among the hospitality industry, land trusts and the traveling public that creates an opportunity for travelers in Montana to help conserve open land. Participating businesses collect voluntary donations from Montana's guests and residents, and those funds are granted to land trusts to help protect open land.

Armstrong

In 2009, GVLT received a grant from Travelers for Open Lands to help complete the Half Circle Ranch Conservation Easement in the foothills of the Bridger Mountains. This 400-acre conservation easement includes permanent public access and protects some of the most critical winter range for mule deer in the Gallatin Valley.

TRAILS

Trail Maintenance
Mud season is upon us and our community trail system is emerging from the icy grip of winter. We need everyone's help in assessing any hazards, safety issues, or maintenance needs that may be emerging with the spring thaw. Here are some ideas for things to look for: missing or broken boards on bridges, erosion channels in the trail, down trees or low branches, missing or damaged signs, graffiti, broken benches, weed infestations, mud holes, trash, etc. GVLT will work with the City Parks Department and our adopt-a-trail groups to get the trails back in shape for a summer of fun recreational activities. Think safety and keep an eye out for hazards! Email your observations and trail maintenance needs to gary@gvlt.org.

STAFF

Saying So Long

At the end of this month we will say a fond farewell to Kate Wright, our Stewardship Coordinator for the past four years. We greatly appreciate all the many valuable contributions Kate made to GVLT. We wish her well and thank her for helping to conserve the best of the Gallatin Valley and beyond.

WAYS TO GIVE

Here's How

Stock Gift

A great way to contribute to GVLT is through a gift of stock. It is simple and there are several valuable financial benefits to donating appreciated stocks, bonds or mutual funds. The total value of the stock at the time the gift is made is tax-deductible, and there are no capital gains taxes on the appreciation. To learn more click here.
