Missing Ski's

On Saturday someone went home with the wrong ski set up. Will everyone who attended please double check that you have your ski's at home because Amy Kelly misses her skis. The ski set that is missing are Atomic Betas ski's, red with checkerboard at the tip, with two different Solomon bindings. The poles are dark grey, with velcro straps.

Please call the GVLT office if you have the skis - 406.587.8404

GVLT BOARD

GVLT Welcomes A New Board Member

GVLT is delighted to announce another fabulous new member to our Board of Directors -

Columbine Culberg!

ColumbineColumbine has spent more than 15 years developing and implementing programs that connect people and nature.  She began her career as an outdoor science educator and has spent years since developing science and conservation policy and communications programs for businesses, organizations, and government agencies.  Along with her consulting work as the principal at Honeydew Consulting, Columbine is the Director of Environmental and Community Affairs at Montana Import Group. Columbine holds an undergraduate degree in Ecology and Cultural Anthropology from Mills College, and a M.S. in Natural Resource Management and Behavior from the University of Michigan.

Columbine attributes her love of nature and compulsion for stewardship to being raised on a ranch in the back of a canyon close enough to the southern California coast for an occasional ocean breeze.  Since then, she has lived in San Francisco, Baja California, Italy, Michigan, Palau, Washington, D.C., and now spends her time between Santa Barbara and Bozeman.

We are very lucky to have her energy, ideas, commitment and passion!

CONSERVATION

The President's Initiative supports Land Trusts

President Obama has released his America's Great Outdoors report, specifically citing the importance of land trusts and private lands in the conservation of America's treasured landscapes. His plan calls for fully funding grant programs that have already helped GVLT conserve more than 19,000 acres, and calls for making the enhanced tax incentives for conservation easements permanent. Read more about his plan here and see a recent Bozeman Daily Chronicle article about the local impacts of this report here

Good News from Helena!

A bill that would have eliminated perpetual conservation easements in Montana has been cancelled and has not moved forward in our legislature. This is a victory for private property rights, land conservation, and future generations! Read more about this legislation in a column written by our Program Director, Kelly Pohl.

TRAILS

GVLT is Featured Grant Recipient
The Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks will recognize GVLT as a Recreational Trails Program grant recipient with a ceremony in March. GVLT has been awarded a $35,000 grant for trail projects through this program.

Advertise to Trail Users While Helping GVLT

GVLT is working on several exciting new trail improvements, including new trail information kiosks and a reprint of our popular trail map. Businesses can sponsor these projects and receive advertising space, all while supporting GVLT's community trails program. Kiosks are available at several new trail locations and the maps will be printed this summer. Please contact Kelly Pohl, Program Director, for more information.

A Fond Farewell

We bid a fond farewell to Ted Lange, whose last day with GVLT was March 2nd. Ted made many friends and many valuable contributions to GVLT during his eight year tenure. We wish him all the best and happy trails in the future.
