Lightning Answer The Question!

Hi Everyone,
I'm back from Maryland. It is good to be home but I also miss living
near my family. I had a great time
visiting with them. We went to Waterford Farm, Brookeville, MD,
which had a corn maze in the shape of a bee.
Throughout the whole maze they had all sorts of information about
bees. It was set up so that when you
reached a fork in the path you had to answer a question, one answer was right
and the other left, further down the path you would find out if you choose the
right answer. The wrong answer was a
dead end. It was very informative and
great fun. The corn was higher than our heads. Also, I would love to find a recording of the
sound of corn in the wind. It was a most
fabulous soothing sound.
Another place I visited was the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley in Winchester, Virginia. It had a restored house from the 1700's,
called Glen Burnie, six acres of landscaped gardens and a
museum with many galleries. The most
memorable part of the place, other than the rose garden, was their display of
miniature houses and rooms. During the winter
season, Lee Taylor, who was the head gardener of the place, would spend his off
time building an exact replica of the Glen Burnie house. After
that he built his dream house, taverns, schoolrooms, general stores all in
miniature. He did it all himself,
including wiring them for electricity, painting wall coverings, and sewing
drapes. It was very impressive.
We also took some time in the Smithsonian's Natural History
Museum and got to walk through a butterfly habitat which was one of their exhibits. It had some of the most beautiful and exotic
butterfly's I've ever seen. Between that
and the bee maze it made me want to come home and plant as many flowering bushes
and plants for them as fast as possible.
I have been getting feedback that the astrological
information is too technical. I will try
harder to make it easier to understand in the future. My apologies for that.
Now it is October and I am looking forward to this
month. It is my favorite time of the
year, and I love being outside in it. I
hope you all have a wonderful season.

Full Moon Aries - October 3 - 4
Harvest Moon
This year the October full moon is the Harvest Moon. Usually it is in September, but the Harvest
Moon is determined by it's closeness to the Autumn Equinox. This year, because September's full moon was
so early on in the month, October's won the title. What makes a Harvest Moon so special, is that it
rises 30 minutes after the sun sets. The
further North you go the less time in between sunset and moon rise. Normally, a full moon rises an hour after the
sun sets. The shorter time, especially
during harvest season meant that a farmer could work into the night and still be able
to see clearly enough to get his crops in for winter.
Aries Full Moon
A full moon Aries usually means a time of inspiration and
new ideas, desire for something new or a change in your routine. It is a good month for new interests to spark
your attention. Aries is known for
getting a lot of ideas and starting them but quickly moving on to other new
inspirations and leaving the follow through for other star signs. During an Aries full moon it is important to
be more physically careful with your head.
Aries is a ram and tends to
butt heads without thinking.

Full and New Moons
New Moon
For me when I hear the phrase New Moon I think of the dark
moon. A lot of my friends perceive it as
the crescent, when you just start to see that sliver of light peeking out. In general, when you see it on a calendar it
means the beginning of a different moon cycle.
The sign that the moon is in when it is fully dark, gives the waxing
part of the moon month a flavor as it grows to full.
The sign the full moon is in, gives the waning part of the moon month a
flavor as it shrinks towards dark.
Two to three days before
a new moon crescent, I like to do a deep cleansing and reassessment of my
dreams and goals so that I am clear before the new moon starts. I will do an extra special cleaning of the
house and my room. I will do the little
things I've put off all month and get them off my list. I'll sit down and re-vision what I want to
accomplish and make new lists.
If I'm
really ambitious, I might do a one day fast of brown rice and vegetables. I have the type of body that cannot handle a
juice or salad fast. I am a star and air
person so I have to fast with grounding food.
Otherwise I get really snarky, without realizing it, and my body goes
into tilt. To learn what kind of fast
works best with your body type, consult an acupuncturist or ayurvedic practitioner. Probably a nutritionist
as well, though I have more experience with the other two. The best way to find these are through word of mouth: friends, coworkers, local health food stores, etc. For those in the CA Bay Area, I highly recommend the acupuncturist I've been going to for about 17 years, Therese Coupez at 415-821-1405. She is in San Francisco. In the meantime, an easy, safe one day fast method is to not
eat any refined foods or sugars and only eat whole foods for that day.
Full Moon
For me a full moon means, abundance, the peak of power and
moon bathing. The energies are
considered "full" on the day before
the full moon, the day of and the day
after. My favorite thing to do on the full moon is
to cook a special meal and have a gratitude dinner. I fix a plate for the moon and all of my
unseen helpers and guides. I formally invite
them to dinner with me and I proceed to have dinner with them. While I eat I think about or speak out loud
all the things I am thankful for from the previous month. I also will have a special drink to go with
it like peach iced tea or a special hot chocolate when it is cold. I also give space for the moon and my helpers
to speak to me; I certainly don't want to monopolize the conversation. Then when it feels done, clean everything
up with song, music and dance.
It is important to know about handling food you've offered
to your guardians and guides. This is
the way I was taught and learned from experience; it may be different for other
people and cultures, so do what works for you.
The way I understand it, the energy of the food is eaten by the unseen
beings that you have formally offered the food to. It is eaten rather quickly so you don't need
to leave it out for very long. This is
good if you are contending with ants or other seen beings who come running or
flying after left out food. Though the
physical food is still there on the plate it is empty of life force. Once they are done, put it in the compost, down
the drain or in the trash. When you make
an offering plate, you only need to put something like a tablespoon, nothing
very big. For me sharing my food is a
fun way to express my heartfelt appreciation to those that keep me safe. It is a great way to strengthen your bonds
with them. Sometimes I expand it and ask
friends or mentors over to partake in the full moon dinner and thank them for
being in my life.
Full moon bathing is like a comforting balm. We get a lot of sun in Northern
California and I am not a sun worshiper. More often than not, you'll find me enjoying
the sun from the shade. For me sunbeams bring sparkle and
luxuriousness, the moonbeams bring radiance and soothing rejuvenation. Moonbeams seep into my energy field like the
warmth of a cozy blanket on a cold night.
Though, now that I think about it, the same could be said for sunbeams. Ok, so I love both.

Labyrinths: Guiding Our Transformations
In this article I am
referring to the 7 circuit or 11 circuit labyrinths. The one path in, is the one path out.
The more I consciously try to change my life at a deep
level, the more I realize how labyrinths teach us about that process. I say "trust the process" a lot to my clients
and I am referring to the metaphor of the labyrinth when I say that. Labyrinths have been found to change and
relax our brain waves as we traverse it.
It is the physical action of moving through one which is how you
find the teaching. Initially, as you walk
into the labyrinth, you head directly to center, but then it takes you out and
away from it. You get close to center again
and it takes you out in a different direction. You get close again and it takes you out to the
far edge of the circle. You think that you are the furthest away
you've ever been from your goal, but if you keep going, within a short few turns you suddenly arrive
at center. At last you can relax and receive what you have come for. Then you have to do the whole thing again to get back out, which
helps to integrate what you received.
The labyrinth is the symbolic process of the caterpillar
into a butterfly. It is a symbol (here I
am talking about all of the different types of labyrinths) found in every ancient
culture on this planet. It is one of few live symbols that represents an action not a thing and is so powerful that the
benefits can even be attained by tracing a picture of one with your
finger.
Here is the link to finding a labyrinth near you: world wide labyrinth locater. I find I enjoy the outdoor ones more than the
indoor ones, unless it is in a place like Grace Cathedral.
Here is one that you can walk with your mouse on your computer, just click the picture:
internet labyrinth walking
When you walk it, pretend the center represents a goal you
want to reach or a way of being that you want to be. You can also use it for healing, saying
goodbye, honoring a shift in your life, deepening into your self wisdom, etc. When you stand at the entrance, you can set
an intention and notice where you are in regards to reaching that symbolic
center. As you walk in, allow yourself
to release the old, letting the energy of the path help you. Notice how many times you get near and how
many times you find yourself far away.
Notice how you feel when you reach the center. The center is where you become still in order
to receive the gifts of your intent. Notice
also it is not just about attaining your goal, you still have to walk with it,
twisting and turning back out again. You
don't automatically "get" it, you also have to integrate it, work out the kinks
as you become one with your gift. One thing I have learned is that transformation is a combination of movement and stillness.
Many adults will walk it solemnly and devoutly. This is great and powerful and there are other ways. Notice
that children have a lot of fun skipping, laughing, running or dancing as they move through a labyrinth. They feel a joy and exuberance that their
bodies respond to. As I walk the inward
path, I like to twirl at the switchbacks.
If there are people there needing the quiet I try not to skip because it can be disruptive, but twirling is not and it gets you disoriented so that you are
more likely to let go of the old as you walk inward. Just be careful you don't fall over or get turned around and
go the wrong way, as I have done on occasion. One thing I've always wanted to do with a group is have them blow soap bubbles
from the edges into the circle as each person walks (this is best for a 7
circuit one). If there are no others to
disturb, take the opportunity to experiment with more expressive ways of experiencing
the labyrinths' process.
