FeaturedArticleBeyond the Studio

Might it be time to shake up your yoga practice a bit?  Are you getting tired of the same 4 walls of your yoga studio?  Have you taken classes from the same teacher long enough to anticipate the next transition and the next?  Do you need some deeper OM in your life?  Maybe it's high time to rattle your chakras and try something new. Here are some suggestions.

Change it up -  Try a new studio, a new teacher, a new yoga style.  Yes, there are numerous choices.  Why we need all of them, I'm not sure.  As my teacher, Judith Lasater, says, why is it Yoga + something?  Why can't it be just yoga?  Well, anyway, here's an example of what's waiting for you:  Ashtanga Primary Series, Dru Yoga, Explorative Yoga, Gentle Yoga, Hatha Flow, Iyengar-Inspired Yoga, Kundalini Yoga, Laughter Yoga, Lunchtime Yoga, Mixed Level Yoga, Pre/Post Natal Yoga, Vinyasa Blend Yoga, AnusaraYoga, Restorative Yoga, Tantric Vinyasa, Inner Yoga, Radiant Flow, Candlelight Flow.Yes, and believe me, the list goes on and on.

Get Outside -  The weather's fine and the living is easy.  Grab your mat and head outdoors. Many teachers are taking this opportunity to hold outdoor yoga classes.  The amazing Keith Erickson leads what he calls Random Acts of Outdoor Yoga.  Find Keith here.  On Thursdays beginning June 10th, Yoga on Center will be promoting Plein Air Yoga at the Healdsburg Ridge Trail with Kevin Tracy. Get info here.

Pamper Yourself -  You don't have to go to Bali or Puerto Vallarta to get away, relax and feel pampered.  Sarana Miller offers a yoga weekend at Wilbur Hot Springs where you'll get 5 organic meals, 5 yoga sessions, and 2 nights accommodations - including use of baths, sauna and grounds.  Yea!!  Meet Sarana here.  Last weekend, I attended Anne O'Brien's 2-hour yoga class at the Sonoma Mission Inn.  Not only was the yoga amazing, but you get full use of their world-class spa facility for the day!!

International Yoga - Need an excuse for a trip abroad?  Of course you do.  Well, here it is in two words: Yoga Retreat.  They are all over the world.  What a better way to see a country, meet like-minded travelers, and get your yoga practice on. These retreats are often reasonably priced, offering 1 to 2 daily yoga classes, local (maybe organic/veggie/vegan) cuisine, treks and tours and rustic to luxury accommodations.  My friend, yoga therapist, Aussie, and yogini-extraordinaire, Jayne Robertson, is leading her second annual yoga retreat to Northern Queensland, Australia, in September.  Read all about it right here.

The above is just a smattering of what's available.  I hope I've sparked your interest in using your yoga practice as a spring board to new experiences.  Whether jetting off to Australia, Greece or India or just dragging your mat out on your lawn, under the nearest oak tree, or down to the local park, try expanding your practice outside those 4 studio walls.  Instead of grooving to Jai Uttal on the stereo you could be swaying to the rhythms of Mother Nature.

Looking for Mature or Beginning Level Yogis
Do you want a class that pays a bit more attention to your needs and wants, yet offers movement that helps with your flexibility, strength and balance?  I have a few yoginis who are looking for others to join with in the afternoon hours.  If you, or someone you know, is interested, let me know.

$7 Yoga???
Yes, you read that right.  Yoga on Center's Noon class on Tuesday, taught by ME, is only seven bucks.  What's better than yoga and an afternoon in Healdsburg on a beautiful summer afternoon?  See the really nice flyer they made here.

Enthusiasm.  Check out this YouTube video. Maybe we could be so thankful for the things we have. I love my haircut, too!

Thanks for the Egg Cartons  Keep them coming.  Better to reuse than recycle, right?   .
