Greetings!
Let's face it, we all know what we should and should not be doing to be happy and healthy. How could we not with the media screaming out self-help advice 24/7!
We know, we know, we know what to do but so often cannot make consistent healthy choices.
Experts agree it takes 21 days to break a bad habit and form a new one. This summer I awoke one day finally determined to test this research. For many years, I have felt guilty about my inconsistent meditation practice. Last August, while filled with remorse, I wrote out the numbers 1 thru 21 in my journal and challenged myself to test these findings.
I committed myself to meditating for 15 minutes every day for three weeks and kindly agree with myself that if I missed a day I would just go back to the beginning and start again.
The truth is that the process was much less painful that I had anticipated. I made it through the 21 days and have continued meditating daily even bumping up my practice time to 20 - 30 minutes. I am confident that the habit of a daily meditation practice has been established. My work now is to continue to reinforce and strengthen it.
Needless to say I am so happy to have formed this new and rewarding habit. I encourage you all to test the research for yourself. The trick, I believe, is to start with a small change like drinking 8 glasses of water per day or perhaps, like me, a short meditation. Good luck and please share your stories with me.
Namaste,

I made it to the top of Mt.Kilimanjaro... and it was all about the breath.
Kili is the tallest mountain in Africa (19,500 ft). It was a very intense six month training program of walking, dieting, weights, pilates and of course yoga. I focused on the Stationary Sequence as I wanted to really work on balance, concentration and foucus.
The first 4 days were for the most part trail hiking, up. On the fourth day there was an hour of bouldering which required balance and focus and as I pulled myself up on one leg at a time, I just kept thinking, "Thank heavens for the yoga training". The fifth day started at 12:30 AM at 15,000 feet.
The night hike to the top was mentally and physically challenging. It was hard to get enough oxygen. But I kept taking full breaths and breathing into the back part of my lungs which I would not have known I had without my yoga practice.
I usually think of my yoga practice as helping my focus and strength for daily life. But it made a huge difference in the physial challenge of my life!

I was fortunate at a very young age to become a strength and conditioning coach at the NBA level with the Philadelphia 76ers. During that time I had the opportunity to work hands on with these elite level athletes. It was then I realized how so many of them lacked decent flexibility! At the end of the 06-07 season I gave players options of yoga and pilates and THAT is where my journey began. I am now the proud owner of eagles season tickets which have been in my family for over 40yrs. Don't call me on sundays in the fall.

Teen Self Defense Saturday October 16 3:00 - 5:00 pm $40

Self-defense begins with how you speak, how you carry yourself, and the situations you put yourself in. Sometimes, however, this is not enough. Kids, in particular girls, are often not prepared to deal with everyday confrontations or more severe attack scenarios.
In this two hour workshop, you will learn the three levels of self-defense: avoid, escape, fight. In addition to learning awareness, you will learn simple, effective and street-wise self-defense techniques.
Gwen Soffer is co-owner of Enso studio in Media. She teaches yoga and is a second degree Black Belt and highly trained in personal street self-defense.
