Credit Recovery Testing Standards | Based on information from NC DPI, course codes for Credit Recovery courses have changed based on the standards taught in the course.
The Credit Recovery courses currently in Registration for Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 are for the courses based on the former NC Standard Course of Study standards and end in code (CR).
Following our directive from NC DPI, NCVPS will be adding additional Credit Recovery courses in the Registration for Spring 2013 that represent the new Common Core and Essential Standards with a different end code (XR). NCVPS assumes that any studentscurrently registered for Spring 2013 Credit Recovery need to recover the credit based on the the former standards. If this is not the case, students need to be dropped.
Any students who need to recover a credit based on the new standards that rolled out this fall will need to sign up for the new course with the end code XR. These courses (with the end code XR) will trigger the EOC whereas the courses based on the old standards (with the end code CR) will not.
Please contact Michelle Lourcey (michelle.lourcey@ncpublicschools.gov) for any questions!

Student Password Issues |
If the student's password does not work or if the student can log in but sees no courses, go through the following steps:
1) Confirm that the student is enrolled and not waitlisted.
3) If the student is recently enrolled, remember that passwords will not work for 24 hours.
4) If the student is confirmed enrolled and it has been at least 24 hours since enrollment, then have the student submit an online ticket with our Help Center here: Click on "Open a New Ticket." The student or the E-learning Advisor can submit this ticket. Be sure to include the student's name, Wise number, email address, and course that the student can't access. 5) If a student's password stops working anytime during the semester, have the student submit an online ticket with the Help Center.

Reporting NCVPS Classes on Transcripts for NCAA Clearing House | |
We have been working with NCAA to get clarification on how to better help students who are trying to get clearance. The NCAA understands that NCVPS can't award the grade as we are not degree granting and that the NC public school awards the grades.
We have one solution to share with schools systems. It has been suggested that schools document the classes on the transcripts as such:
Algebra I - NCVPS
Algebra I CR-NCVPS - (for the credit recovery classes prior to Aug 2011) - they will not accept CR classes from Aug 11 forward since we are not longer providing a letter grade.
You can also list the course ID to show the semester, etc:
algebraIsec04spr11 - NCVPS
This example helps them to see what semester etc. this course was taken when they are doing their evaluation as well.
By doing this, it will help the NCAA to know this was an online class with NCVPS and that we do not award the grades. Please make sure you designate NCVPS over just ONLINE CLASS. |
