Greetings!
Truth be told, I'm not much of an NBA fan. I find it difficult to watch athletes (for an eighty-two game season!) who lack leadership and often have more loyalty to themselves, their statistics, and the dollar than they do to their own team. But I will be the first to admit that there is something different about the playoffs; they're electric. You can feel the pace of the game change; you can taste the competition; you can witness athletes become superstars. In fact, if the entire season was played with this same intensity and thirst for greatness, I might very well watch all eighty-two of those games! However, there tends to be complacency and mediocrity until those last two weeks in May.
It's a difficult thing to keep a team motivated, day-in and day-out, but when it comes to the business world, it's necessary. We don't all have the luxury of performing inconsistently for six months and then cranking it up for a couple weeks when the pressure gets thick. Sure, there are days when someone's not feeling their best and therefore not performing to their full capability, but those days are balanced with the great days - the days where you leave the office feeling incredibly accomplished. Overall, the team needs to be motivated to be productive. At Seals/Biehle, our "playoff season" is from January 1 to December 31. We are proud to carry a roster of motivated, hard-working employees who see the value in consistency and who continually work to raise the bar. We may not have the Larry O'Brien trophy on the line each year, but we have something more important that gets us up and into the office each morning - pride...and the desire to work hard.
Sincerely,
Matt Seals

SCHOOL'S OUT FOR...REMODELING!
That's right, summer break has begun and the kids are home, which means it's time to renovate the schools. Seals/Biehle, Inc.'s summer schedule consists of several Lease-Leaseback projects and among them is a two-phase project at Visalia Unified's Ivanhoe Elementary School. Seals/Biehle, Inc. is currently remodeling the existing front parking lot at Ivanhoe, adding site lighting, landscaping, fencing and an additional 20,000 square foot parking lot. Phase Two of the project will consist of 650 feet of shoulder realignment on the north side of Avenue 332, ADA accessible crosswalks with a pair of rapid flash crossing beacons, a speed feedback sign and coordination with Southern California Edison to relocate two power poles on the North side of the road. The project is slated to be completed in mid August, just before the students return to school.

BOOK REVIEW: 360 Degrees of Influence
Think you have to be a CEO to be influential? Think again. In 360 Degrees of Influence: Get Everyone to Follow Your Lead on Your Way to the Top, author Harrison Monarth provides valuable insight into human emotion and behavior, revealing the secrets to becoming the most psychologically astute person in the room, which ultimately translates into being the most influential leader in the room. Monarth points out that the ability to influence others is innate and that environmental and social factors are the determinants as to whether one will harness that power of influence or succumb to the influential power of others. In this powerful book about leadership, Monarth narrows the power of influence down to two things - one must have an outward-facing understanding of his audience, and shape his intentions to create a win-win situation that plays into their sense of worthiness, fulfillment and the better good of all. This is a must-read for all, regardless of where you fall in the hierarchy of the organization!

"I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed." -- Michael Jordan
