Greetings!
Whether
you're a head coach, CEO, or a politician, great leaders have the ability to
attract and retain the best teams, surrounding themselves with the most capable
and hard working individuals that share a common purpose or goal - success. The
importance of leadership in an organization is undoubtedly one of the major
factors of growth and longevity, and comparably when leadership is used as a
weapon rather than a motivator, it becomes the main driver for egocentrism,
turmoil and failure.
Now,
in a month that celebrates our nation's birth, our forefathers and their
unparalleled leadership, we are reminded of the importance and impact of a
strong leader - in business, public and personal affairs. For these men,
leadership was innate. They were visionaries with strong character and values.
Today, we often get swept up in the demands of society and lose sight of these
basic principles for being a successful leader. We are reactive instead of
proactive; we act as a one-man team delegating to those beneath us instead of
truly leading and working together.
In recent years we have witnessed the struggles of
staying afloat in a challenging economy. The majority of businesses that have
endured these trying times and haven't wavered are the result of a strong
leadership team. They have motivated their employees to weather the storm and
prepared them appropriately. They have relied on a common vision and above all
else, have embraced cooperation and cohesion, because after all, leadership is
not a one-sided relationship. A great leader can direct where a path is going
but it takes a team of cohesive individuals working together to pave such a
path.
Sincerely, Matt Seals |

Common Purpose Illustrates the Importance of "we" in Organizations
In Common Purpose:
How Great Leaders Get Organizations to Achieve the Extraordinary, Joel
Kurtzman examines the bones of successful companies and leaders to unveil the
secrets behind motivating a group of employees to act as a body of "we."
Kurtzman emphasizes the importance of leadership not only existing at the top
for a company to be successful - it must be replicated throughout the
organization at different levels of management; the most effective leaders have
the ability to motivate and mobilize others to work toward a common goal,
empowering employees at every level to take the reins and help lead the way. Kurtzman illustrates the value of leadership that
transcends departmental and hierarchical boundaries, refuting the idea that
leadership is command and control based. As common purpose leadership begins
with respect for individuals and their unique differences, getting into the
trenches and truly knowing the employees of which an organization is comprised
is key. Gone are the days of traditional leaders - in the world of business
today, leaders who can create a sense of common purpose so everyone executes
and everyone leads are the ones who will persevere and lead their organizations
to success. Click here for a short review & summary of Common Purpose |

do what he wants done, and self-restraint to keep from meddling with
them while they do it.
